Ran into this randomly from, and it's pretty wild seeing a trans joke from 50 years ago that is arguably more accepting than what you would see today (at least using correct name and pronouns). It's insane how much cultural damage has been done by making gender a political issue.

Also this athlete went through all the exact same arguments that we're still having today, won a court case and everything. Back then they also thought every man would transition in order to gain an advantage in sports, and 50 years later it hasn't happened, and 50 years from now it won't happen.

At the high school level there are fifteen trans athletes in all of the united states. Only two of them are trans-women. There's fewer than ten at the collegiate level.

The whole trans sports issue is about stoking fear of transgender people. It's not about fairness or women's sports. They will point to every time a trans athlete wins, but ignore all the many times they lose.

It's also about getting people to conform to gender roles, because it's not just Lia Thomas they go after. They've even went so far as to transvestigate Katie fucking Ledecky.

Since Trump lacks the energy he once had and is doing all the same stuff he did the first time, it seems like Musk and Vance will be the main sources of outrage in this administration. The latter in particular seems to be Nixon with incel language.

I believe it was. All of this led to European leaders (Macron, Starmer, Tusk and Scholz to be precise) having their own peace conference with Zelenskyy. While Trump is trying to have bilateral talks with Russia that do not even include Ukraine with them. We are seeing Trump and Vance actively make the US irrelevant on the world stage.

I watched NBC's morning show today and they sold this meeting as "Europe meets with itself to pretend to have a say in Ukraine" and treated it as proof that Europe is irrelevant to the peace negotiations because Trump is meeting with both leaders (separately) and Ukraine isn't even going to that meeting.

Oh sorry, mostly that was a talking point regarding Harris campaigning alongside the Cheneys combined with the unpopularity of US intervention in Europe and the Middle East under Biden. Sorry, I think NBC is right about this. We've been having peace summits for almost 3 years with large numbers of countries participating but not Russia. A European summit in which Russia does not participate is not going to achieve much since Russia is, after all, the cause of the war.

Now, you could make the same argument that a summit without Ukraine won't achieve anything, but - regardless of what Zelensky says now (and there's no way he would speak differently at this point) - if the US and Russia do reach a deal, I don't think Ukraine can turn it down. It would just lead to losing US support, the war continuing, and losing more land to Russia.

The only way to avoid the above is if other countries with sufficient military force to defeat Russia actually provide Ukraine with the help it needs to win the war on the battlefield (or at least stalemate it). Europe could do that, if the various European countries are serious about this European army idea and are willing to move forward with it without a peace deal. But I've seen nothing to show that any European countries are willing to do this while Russia and Ukraine are still at war. It's a lot easier to send troops as peacekeepers after peace has returned.

And I think from Trump's perspective, if Europe does step up like that - he would consider it a huge success. If Ukraine wins the war without American support, he would see that as much better than Ukraine winning the war with American support.
