I've always been kind of curious but never got around to watching it. Finally watched it at my 8yo's urging and I'm frankly impressed.

Please tell me the rest of the series is as good.

I love the first one.

I kinda dislike the second and how it ridiculously retcons the first film

And I never saw the 3rd

But I am very excited for the live action remake!

great movie! hope they never try to needlessly adapt it to live action! only disney is dumb enough to keep doing that, right?

In this case, I kind of understand the live action remake thing - in that the ending of 3 really stopped the series dead in its tracks, yet is still very popular. AKA they need a new film to allow more toy sales but a sequel's not an option.

I'm not saying it's a good reason to be doing it, mind, but that I understand it.

They are using it more to promote a theme park than toys.

All three are great. I would actually say 2 is the best one.

Live action remake teaser:

It actually looks really good, but its so close to the original it does make you wonder why have it at all.

Wow, I am usually completely against live action remakes. Yet that actually looks impressive!

Appears they filmed on the same island as the sequel trilogy, the beginning of the trailer had me momentarily confused. Thought I was seeing Luke for a second there.

in all seriousness I think HtTYD is the most fitting of a live action remake. yeah, it's not that old, but as someone else said, they kinda fucked themselves over with the ending of 3, so they can't do a sequel, and a prequel wouldn't really work. they also had the show so they probably milked a lot of other storylines they could have used

so if they want to keep the franchise alive, which they will need to as 1/4 of what might be the best theme park ever made is now devoted to it, the easiest avenue is a live action remake

i don't normally like the live action remakes because they do it worse 9 times out of 10 (maybe even 10 times out of 10, I am being generous). there is literally no need for them. not only do they feel like cash grabs but they also feel like they're saying "now that it's live action it is REAL and for ADULTS"

Petes Dragon if it counts given the original is already mostly live-action. Also The Jungle Book dont @ me.

I always thought with remakes it is better to remake films that have a good premise but are not great, like Petes Dragon, or for a non-animation related example Oceans Eleven, and do it better rather than just remaking the classics.

For this though, I think it benefits from the original already having photorealistic environments combined with keeping the animated dragon designs. That helps it avoid just flattening the look like most of those Disney remakes do.

Second movie was pretty good, too. But Drago was kinda meh. They do a good job making him unlikable but he's not very compelling or interesting. Maybe I'm wanting too much from a kid's movie.

I think it's kind of a throwaway line that as long as man exists there will always be someone trying to control them, so the only way they can be free is to have their secret island or something.

I dunno I was tipsy during it

I applaud them for having the balls to actually end the franchise, and overall liked the last movie. But the pacing and general logic of some of the motivations feel off, rushed.
