I can't get into the KH games. I've played the 3 main entries and neve finished any of them. I see the appeal. They're fun and well-made. They just don't hold my interest. Same with the Witcher. Like, I get why these games are popular and win awards and sell millions and all that but they just don't "click" for me

Games get announced too early these days is why. Apparently its for hiring purposes (hey people! We're making Kingdom Hearts 4! You could too!) but on the consumer end its pointless.

I think Square Enix forgot too.

Thats what happens when theres no news about it lol.

Im definitely anticipating it though. Love the three main numbered games. Its the handhelds that I have issue with

I do really like that Nintendo's been trending in the other direction. Metroid Prime 4 and TotK being notable exceptions (the reactions to whose delays may be the motivating factor behind this strategy), most of their recent games have been announced within less than a year of the anticipated release date, which I'm a fan of.

I mean you can announce anything. It's only briefly exciting to fans until an actual trailer of some kind comes out

Same here. I loved the original. Second one was ok, but the 3rd was just completely boring, Man! I think I ended up playing like 4-5 hours and putting it down.

First one was the one I found most engaging. Not sure how far I got but I played it the most of the 3.

1 was great, 2 was peak, 3 I couldn't finish

others that i remember playing off the top of my head only and no googling

chain of memories: pretty good. i was higher on the card system than others. (i never played the remake though, just GBA)
birth by sleep: easily the best of the "portable" ones. good combat, great soundtrack, ELITE story.
358/2: gameplay loop was enjoyable enough but i admittedly dont remember shit other than roxas and axel.
dream drop distance: i know i didnt finish this one. i think it had a half baked pokemon mechanic included? didnt care for any of it really. jumping back and forth between characters to unlock/progress things for the other is always an uninteresting mechanic to me.
re:coded: i mean yeah this game also existed and im pretty sure i beat it. i remember digital cubes and not much else

If I sat eagerly anticipating a mainline Kingdom Hearts game all the time, I would have died long ago. Gotta keep your excitement at a reasonable level and expect the ETA to be "sometime this decade, probably."

Didn't they take like ten years to make the last one? I have an issue of game informer with previews of that game, and I haven't gotten game informer for like 8 years.

And even then, MP4 was likely in a reasonable window, but they decided to scrap it all and start from scratch with Retro...which should have been the plan anyways.

I definitely don't remember them ever announcing KH4. But that might be because I've completely ceased to give a single solitary shit about the KH franchise as a whole.

Couldn't get much of anywhere in KH1 even when both hands did as directed, so I sort of drifted away. Had no idea there were more than 2 and Chain of Memorie.

I either actually forgot or never knew in the first place.

If you're talking about Kingdom Hearts III, it took nineteen years for it to come out after Kingdom Hearts II.

Of course, the reason here is that they wanted to "set up the story" for the third game. This led to them making a prequel game ("here are three new characters who are suddenly vital to everything"), an interquel ("let's talk about Axel, Roxas, and a new character who got wiped from memory"), another interquel ("here's a whole game to explain what was written on the letter in that bottle at the end of KHII"), an actual sequel that could've been KHIII but wasn't (it involved dumb time travel and when the story really started to go off the deep end), a brief sequel to the prequel ("here's some stuff about Aqua and how Mickey Mouse lost his shirt"), and some browser MMO or something (that's important to the lore and also explains how Maleficent came back and why she's suddenly looking for some mysterious box that's also really important now).

There's a reason some folks gave up after a while.

Thirteen years. Kingdom Hearts II came out at the very end of 2005; KH III was the beginning of 2019.

The problem with modern day Square (Modern day loosely, they have been doing this for the last 25 years), is that they are essentially a CGI animation studio. They make a trailer, release it, then build a story and game-play around it. So it is hard to get excited for something they do when you know that the trailer they release is basically all they have at that point, and you have several more years before you get any inclination of what the game is actually going to be.

They announced KH3 way too early too. It was announced in 2013 and didn't release until 2019. You would have thought they learned their lesson. Apparently not.

What made that wait a bit more easy is the games in-between. Kingdom Hearts Missing Link is supposed to be before Kingdom Hearts 4 but that seems to have gone MIA. Not that I care for a mobile game.

Yeah I don't think there's been any word for close to 3 months now. The last thing was in November when they said they had to delay the release.
