good! yeah it's a great game. i have like 80 hours in it already. tbh i wasn't planning on buying it at launch, but the fucking ridiculous pushback and disinformation campaign about it from the anti-woke crowd spurred me to not only buy it at launch, but actually pre-order it, which it's been like over a decade since i've done with any game.

As much as I love the first game I still haven't completed it. I want to do that before I play the sequel.

I've mostly heard good things, and it usually goes on sale for less than $10 on console for the complete version.

It's kinda hilarious Daniel Vavra was all in on Gamer Gate and vocally anti political correctness to the point he picked fights with people mad about the monochrome casting of game 1, then turned around and said "fuck the Nazis" and made the second game more inclusive.

Oh the Space Marine 2 drama before release was so delicious. Grown men whining and crying and soiling themselves because there was a transwoman on the writing team. One of the groups I'm in had to ban like a 100 people cause they kept stirring up drama about it.

yes! the first game is amazing, and this is more of the same. it is slow and difficult in the beginning especially where combat is concerned, but once you level up your stats some and once you progress some in an early story questline, you will be taught crucial combat techniques by the king's quartermaster that will make combat much easier. it's great because it's realistic. at the beginning of the game, Henry is just some random son of a blacksmith who has never swung a real sword at another person in his life. realistically he would get his ass handed to him in any fight until he actually learned how to fight.

I think Vavra can be criticized plenty for his past, but the POC debate was pretty stupid. He didn't "pretend Black people didn't exist," he said Medieval Bohemia was very white and there'd be very little sense to such diversity there. People arguing with him were mostly making bad arguments that relied on poor sources. Like...yeah, I don't really think we need a high standard of diversity for a Czech studio in 15th century Bohemia.

And folks also ignored that the Cumans (A Turkic people) played a huge role in KC 1. Hopefully this success means we get more historical games that feature a wide range of peoples

no, he didn't ever "pretend black people didn't exist", he just said that not a lot of black people were living in the backwoods areas of 15th century Bohemia, which is pretty much true. the only difference this time is that part of the game takes place in Kuttenberg, which was a major metropolitan area and overseas trading hub at the time, so there is a black character who is a traveling tradesman in this game. which, again, is realistic, but it upset the anti-woke chuds who saw this as Vavra going back on his "basedness", but he was never "based" and he was never one of them like they thought he was.

There's a sidequest with gay content (ignoring the first one had a Gay character) where Henry can romance his friend Hans.

And there's a traveler or two from the Middle East who're passing through and feature. So they're mad that the ethnostate was sullied.

Indeed. When people actually take the risk of making their games more diverse and successful, we praise them for it, not purity test them a la ResetEra.

a couple weeks before release, there was a manufactured outrage that has since been proven thoroughly false that the game was banned in Saudi Arabia because it depicted an "unskippable gay sex scene". there are NO unskippable scenes in either KCD1 or 2, and while there is an option for Henry to pursue some non-hetero romances, it is entirely optional and you can play your Henry as gay or straight as you want him to be. and the game was not banned in any country for any reason. also these idiots don't even flash upon the fact that there was already a gay romance between two prominent side characters in the first game.

and they were also upset at the inclusion of a black character in the game. but i covered why that was misguided in my previous post.

There's been a serious over-correction in historical representation where some people have argued for a level of diversity that didn't actually exist across medieval Europe, and think portraying it as anything but is something acceding to the right wing. See the Guardan's wretched review of the Northman which should have forbid anyone from taking the reviewer seriously ever again.

People came at Vavra with bad arguments and sources and got schooled for it when he actually knew his history and had actual sources. He just wanted to do a specific game in a specific period and the racists thought he was one of them.

Like not everything needs to be representative of everyone. It's fine to have a medieval game that's predominantly white as long as that's not all the market's putting out, just like we should also have films about Afro-British people during the Blitz, games set in medieval Japan or China, and we should have more games with Black characters that feature in history as well. Like I'd love if Assassins Creed hadn't gone to shit for that reason, but AC IV captured the diversity of the 18th century Caribbean quite well.

I am just wondering why the developers didn't do enough research for Assassin's Creed Shadows. Including Yasuke would have been fine since Nioh did it too, but making him the main character and denying us a Japanese male assassin was certainly a choice.

AC has just done a poor job lately. It just feels like since Yasuke is being so talked about in pop culture now they wanted to ride the train, even though Nobunaga was previously established as a villain who was assassinated

I take a stance that people complaining that Idris Elba plays Heimdall in a series where the Asgardians are magic space aliens? Loser shit. But it's pretty fine for a movie like the Northman to be monochrome and the wailing and whining over that was embarrassing.
