there was a protest outside of a Tesla dealership a little ways from where i live a couple weeks ago, and i didn't even know about it until it was over and i was seeing it on the news. i got pretty depressed, because i felt like if i had known about it beforehand, i might have went to it, even though i've never been to a protest for anything in my entire life.

so when i heard on Saturday that there was going to be protests today, organized in front of city halls and other areas across the country in every state as part of the 50501 protests, and i looked it up and there were a few happening in my area, i knew i had to put my money where my mouth is and fucking do this thing, or i would feel like a fraud. well, i'm glad i did, because it was amazing! it was a truly invigorating experience.

the Tesla protest looked like it only had a couple dozen people, so that's about what i was expecting here, but there was easily over a hundred. more and more kept coming as it went on. it lasted almost two hours. it was at a busy main street intersection, at all four corners, and there were so many people driving by who were honking and shouting and pumping their fists in the air in support of us. i feel a lot of the time like us sane, normal, non-brainwashed people are in short supply these days and that MAGAs are everywhere, but this really showed me that there are more people out there than i was expecting that still give an actual FUCK about our country and how it is being destroyed from the inside out by fucking fascists.

i got a ton of compliments on the sign i made, which was awesome! this is a picture of the two sides of it before i put them together and mounted them on a stick:

specifically i got compliments on the side that's on the right here. everyone loooooved it lol! about a dozen people or so wanted to take a picture of it. a few wanted to take a picture of the other side too, and one wanted to take a picture of the shirt i was wearing, which has a greyscale image of the American flag with "Pro America" above it and "Anti Trump" below it.

i didn't actually have to make my own sign, the event organizer page said that they had signs available to pass out if you didn't want to make your own, but i really wanted to express my own message, so i spent pretty much all day yesterday making it. i was worried that it would look too amateurish, that i didn't put enough effort into it, but tbh it was one of the most well-made signs there. i'm glad so many people got such a kick out of it.

and i'm glad that i was able to chat with some of the other people there and commiserate in our frustrations, and to hear other people in real life really talking about how concerned they are with what's happening in our country right now, which tbh outside of my mom i only ever discuss with anyone online. i told a couple other people there that this was my first time protesting anything, one thanked me deeply, and the other said it was their first time too.

i am really glad i decided to go and do this, and i plan to attend more protests in the future. and if you feel as frustrated as i am about everything that's happening with our government right now, then i urge you to look up protests being organized in your area and attend them.

i saw a handful of protestors this morning in the usual rally/protest spot (it's like... next to a beach, most people I've seen there at any one time was maybe 15).

A few of them had pro-democracy signs and then one had "pray for trump and co" and a bible reference? was really confused by that.

sounds like just another delusional conservative christian who was gullible enough to believe Trump is on their side and cares about them and is a godly man. probably thinks he is being led astray by Musk or something.

they believe the propaganda that Trump has a "mandate" from the "people" to just do whatever the fuck he wants. and by extension they can do whatever the fuck THEY want, and everyone else has to just shut the fuck up and take it.

damn, i saw on the local news that another protest in my area today that was on a freeway overpass was blamed for a major traffic jam and i guess a car accident. that kinda sucks. freeway overpasses are probably not the best place to stage a protest. that is not doing any favors for generating support for this cause. i hope they don't do it there next time.

i wasn't seeing any footage of the protest outside city hall though. i wonder what the turnout there was like.

holy shit, the Facebook page for the local county Democrat Club is reporting that there were over 400 people across the four street corners who attended the protest. i guess i really suck at estimating large groups lol. that's like 4 times what i thought it was. wow.

and apparently the one in front of city hall had about 500 people show up. amazing.

thank you. and that's very optimistic of you. I hope you are right, but tbqh I think it's going to take longer than that, and I think it's definitely going to take more than just protests. protests are essential to this movement, but they are nothing more than the sparks that will light the tinder.

my local news channels covered all the protests in my area pretty well. I haven't seen any coverage of the broader movement on the national news though.

You might be right. I just need to be optimistic because too many aren't plus I know things can get better. Just gotta keep this up.

Feb 28 is the next important date- buy nothing from big business. I find this one odd, because we should be avoiding big business every day. It's not realistic for all, due to location though.
