I think Pachinko is the only level I never finished. On Gamecube I never bothered to get all the blue coins, but I might on the Switch version. Sounds like it may be a pain though since blue coins aren't properly tracked.

When All Stars released, I finally 100% completed the game. I just made sure to persistently track the blue coins on my phone. I kinda hated the game until I got used to the controls again, then it was a lot of fun.

For Pachinko, it's best to just look up on youtube how to exploit it. For poison river, be patient and run back along the ledge if you don't get all of the coins. Take your time, and you'll save a lot of time in the long run.

pachinko machine got a lot easier once I realized it essentially has a massive air current inside it, it's not actually related to the spring launch and the curve at the top

made it easier to figure out how to dive/hover into each slot

That's what I hate most about Sunshine. Literally all the extra shines you get dont mean a thing for beating the main game. The game is so linear in that you have to beat these 7 specific shines in these 7 levels (in order too) and nothing else if you want to see the final boss.

Galaxy > 64 > Odyssey > Galaxy 2 > Sunshine

When I got the 3D All-Stars I decided I was going to 100% it as I never even tried to do that as a kid. I did it, but I will never play Sunshine ever again. It was a truly agonizing experience.

The worst part of the game that I barely hear anyone talk about is how everything is part of the tropical island theme. All the levels are based on it and it gets old fast.

idk i found it really easy, just janky. there are maybe two or three missions that are difficult but besides that it's not particularly difficult. levels are pitifully small so getting lost is impossible too

whenever i hear complaints about the game's difficulty, it usually comes from jank like literally broken physics (pachinko) or weird camera angles that make some fluddless jumps more awkward than they should be. the blooper surfing is probably difficult for how early it is, especially if you don't know that they have different handlings and speeds

as a kid it's probably a pretty hard game, but as an adult i find it pretty underwhelming in general

Mostly true, but you can technically skip the first shine in the first level, and go straight to the second. For whatever reason Nintendo put in that one bit of sequence breaking right near the beginning, and then never again.

I think I will second this. Most of the really hard segments like the Sand Bird and the Poison River wouldn't be as bad if the controls were better at doing what you want them to do and the camera jank isn't helping matters.

And of course, not having even a semblance of a way to track Blue Coins in the different levels is a massive oversight the game has. Just makes it so if you don't keep track, you will never know where what is missing is.

I got a feeling blue coins were thrown in last minute so the game would have 120 stars like Mario 64.

It is possible. The game was rushed as was Wind Waker for the GameCube's release, so that could be the explanation why the whole mechanic is so poorly designed.

I always struggled with the Lily Pad Ride, both the level itself as well as getting there. I cannot tell you how many times I killed Yoshi by falling into the water when trying to reach the island where the level is located.

It really is. That's the primary reason I want Sunshine 2; a more refined experience would be good, but that's secondary to palm trees and pretty beaches.
