Went to reserve a lane for my family to bowl today.

Bowlero wanted $217 dollars for 2 hour lane rental at 1pm.

cant even fucking go bowling with a family of 4 for less than $300 if you want to have some food too. There arent any small time places either by me to see if it would (most definitely) be cheaper.

fortunately I saw a Groupon that knocked it down to $61.

Man where I live in the Midwest things are cheap. Bowling here on a Friday or Saturday night from 8 pm to close, all the bowling you can fit in for a few hours cost $19 a person. That includes shoes if you don't have your own.

During the week you pay by the lane, not people. It is like $30 a lane for an hour. Wouldn't be a good price for 1 person but if you are a family of 4 it would still just be $30.

Yeah, that's probably intentional.

I think part of the reason video games are so popular is that it is a relatively cheap hobby. Even if you pay $100 for an early release title you likely are going to get hours out of it. Compare that to paying more money for less time as with the bowling example in this topic.

Just checked my local Bowlero and it was $183 for 2 hours next Saturday for a party of 4. Add food and drinks and you're around $250.

That's...a lot for bowling I think. Topgolf would be something similar.

So I just checked, and I can get to drive a Ferrari for 8 laps around one of the greatest F1 tracks (Silverstone), for less than the the cost of 2hrs family bowling.

That's nuts.

I used to bowl a lot like 15 years ago, and it would be like maybe $15 for an hour on 1 lane. Maybe not even that much.

That is beyond absurd and I would never go to a bowling alley that charged that much. The lanes I go to for league charges $3 per game for open bowling. And they've got the typical 9pm-midnight all-you-can-bowl for $10 during the week and $18 on friday and saturday nights. It's also by far the cleanest and best maintained bowling alley in the area.

I just looked up a local bowling alley by me. $16/hour per person. I guess for a family of four for 2 hours, it would come out to $128. But I cant imagine bowling for that long. Thats Chicagoland, for what its worth.

Also, that Groupon for $61 makes it roughly $7.60 per person per hour. Seems super reasonable at that rate.

The place by me has 15 dollar all yiu can bowl after like 7pm

At my local bowling alley for 4 people to bowl 2 hours it is $512.

Those prices are insane, even if youre talking about Canadian dollars. I live in a fairly high cost of living place and here are the prices at my local bowling alley:

You guys should check if your alley has special weekend night bowling.

An Alley I lived near did cosmic bowling Friday and Saturday night from 10pm to 1am. It's an up front cost for 3 hours if bowling. I checked and currently it's $20/person

Just looked up the new local bowling place in town. Has an arcade, axe throwing, a bar and restaurant as well.

Open bowling is $5 per person per game and $3 shoe rental

Bowling alleys seem to be a relatively inefficient market, there's one on the north side that rents lanes for $20 per hour and then one downtown where it's $75 per hour.

In Vegas it's not so bad, likely because there's a fuckload of bowling alleys in all these casinos. I wanna say I dropped about $50 last time for two games/two people.

Ugh...never go there. Those places aren't bowling alleys, they're party centers. And they're just a combination of half-assed versions of like 10 different things. If a bowling alley has anything more than a bar/snack bar, pro shop, and maybe a billiards room you're in the wrong place and they're going to rip you off.

they dont even have a liquor license so you cant even get a drink.

although it looks like a great party place if you had to cater something.

around here you can basically walk into any place and get a lane as long as it's not during league times. And you pay per string, not by the hour.
