The conservative on the ground who is over the moon at the trillions and bajillions being saved by nixing every single social safety net...what is their argument again?

I assume they have one. I mean, surely only a rational person would agree to billionaires taking everything they have on the condition that they were at least getting something for it.

Is it the promise of more trickle down economics? A better military? More guns? What is the actual tangible thing they desire from this?

They don't think. That's why they're conservative.

Tax cuts. That's the common denominator with American conservatives. It doesn't matter if they are worse off because the very programs they depend on are slashed or the rich get richer because trickle down is good to them. They just don't want to pay taxes.

They think it's 'saving their tax dollars' and don't venture any further than that.

Maybe the more adventurous ones think it's reducing the national debt.

So the old "My medication is 100x the price, I can't afford to go to school or the hospital or dentist or mobility equipment or have a child, my private insurance for all of these things combined is easily over $1.5k a month, but there's an extra $100 in my paycheck each month from tax cuts" line of reasoning.

The "taxation is theft" line has poisoned the well so badly they can't comprehend that the money they think is stolen has any value at all precisely because we have a (somewhat) functioning society and government funded by those taxes.

I've always noticed them complain about the national debt as though an imaginary line going down will be a huge load off their mind and I think they believe this is helping with that.

That. Are they correct? No. Does it matter? Also no. But it's perfectly intuitive to understand that less spending means lower taxes as long as you have no idea how economics works.

We don't have many conservatives left on CE. Those who still are here are mostly lurking or biting their tongue.

Ill bite, for most it stops there. For some it is in some hand waive vague concept of freeing up the money to reinvest in the market. Nothing to say this will happen but that is the idea. In reality it is to free up money for idiots to throw at stocks because liquidity is going to shit without boomers pouring endless amounts to keep things afloat. And Musk and the other technofascists need that liquidity to keep up their endless scam.

The goal right now is to abolish the federal government in it's entirety. There's a split between whether they'll still be okay with state taxes, as they think local governments will be able to now efficiently spend tax revenue, or if they should just not pay taxes at all. They don't consider for one second how many red states are subsidized by blue states or that whatever they're no longer having to pay in taxes will not be anywhere near to cover the increased costs of living.
