Talon did spend his time sleeping, while Malon spend her singing to horses. Ingo did all the hard work, it's something that is shown pretty explicitly.

His greatest crime was kicking out Talon because he was a slacker, and making Malon actually, y'know, work. The fact that the game makes you hand over the ranch back to Talon and Ingo ends up right where he started, slaving away while being thankful for the opportunity, shows a pretty clear anti-worker bias from Nintendo.

Miyamoto got his job through nepotism/cronyism, and never worked in a real job. And his dad was in the academic sector rather than a blue-collar worker. Obviously he has scorn for the poor working class laborer.

Isn't it implied that Ingo stole the ranch through underhanded means? And wasn't he abusive to the animals? Pretty scummy if that's the case, and he should be grateful to have his old job back in spite of all that rather than being cast out on his ass.

Ingo kissed Hyrule-Hitler's ass and either got Ganondorf to seize the ranch and give it to him or else just forcibly deposed Talon with Ganondorf's blessing. Malon also indicates that he "mistreats the horses", which is the only reason why she stays on.

I'd say both of those qualify as "something wrong".

Talon being lazy was well-established, yes, but nowhere is it implied that the only thing Malon does is sing to the horses (if that were true, she'd be pretty useless as a farmhand and Ingo would presumably just toss her out with her Dad; he kept her around, so clearly she knew her way around a barn). Also, she's ~10 years old in the past, so even if she wasn't putting in as much work as the adults, that's perfectly defensible on account of her being a literal child.

Technically Malon takes the ranch back over. You never actually have to bring Talon back (he will only return if you go talk to him again in Kakariko after you've freed Epona).

That said, for what it's worth, both Talon and Ingo recognize the error of their ways and Malon seems to see the humanity in both of them (she explicitly says that "Mr. Ingo is not a bad man" if you talk to her at night) and after Talon comes back to the ranch, he claims to have turned over a new leaf and promises to work hard from then on (and, sure enough, you never catch him sleeping again afterwards).

Oh shit, yeah, I forgot about that. I always took it as he sold someone out to Ganondorf in exchange for the ranch and found it really sus how he was just let back into his old position no questions asked.

They usually are if they're managers.
