I don't like scalpers, but frankly...most Pokemon card buyers (in U.S at least) are scalpers or "collectors"/hoarders that intend to sell later on. Not many legit just collect for fun.

Stores should ban anyone fighting, period. Unfortunately...they love $$ more than safety and laws.

Costco can (and has) taken away peoples memberships for life. If this happened in store, yeah it would be a ban. I dont know what happens since it happened in the parking lot and not in the store where an employee can demand to see your card and just go to a terminal and ban you.

It would be the actual simplest thing in the world for them to go "oh hey, our last set of X got scalped" and produce ten times as many of the next round. They still sell out in seconds, which is what the producers care about, and in a week you can't give the stuff away, which is what the consumers want. The only losers are the asshole scalpers.

It's not even like Pokemon cards are hard to manufacture, lol. They can print like a trijillion in a second.

TPCi is aware of them. After the original public response, they've announced that the current popular scalping set, Prismatic Evolutions, will be in print and be restocked on store shelves until September of this year.

Unfortunately printing cards and shipping them out takes time. The social media frenzy scalpers create scares people and they in turn feed the frenzy even if they're not trying to scalp because they "need" to grab product due to FOMO.

It costs like a couple pennies to print, package and ship a pack of cards. The final retail sale price only drops after they've sold as many as they can at MSRP. Selling them for half price means they know they've gotten all their MSRP sales done.

Besides, selling under MSRP is the retailer's decision. They still purchased them from the manufacturer at the same price.

Neither of these is correct.

It costs more than pennies. Is it way cheaper than they charge? Sure. But no. They even bought their own expensive printers and that cost multiple millions they gotta get back.

No they don't first sale at Msrp. This shows you come to the scene now or not even now and think you know about it by making shit up.
Presale is 50% of msrp up until late summer 2024.
You presale get a box for $90.
Maybe some stores a little more but none were $161

I am honestly surprised there's no stock market version of card values. Like, you look at the page and see when prices of things go up and down in real time. Seeing people pokevest using the Poke Market would be hilariously sad. I guess there's TCG player but I just wanna imagine meltdowns like the economy has with the stock market, but with Pokemon cards.

I dont remember a point where it was this bad. As popular as it was, it was still mostly nerds and kids. Now you got the same nerds grown up, scalpers plus even more kids.

Like you cant even find boosters from any set in walmart. And once theres a restock its gone in the same day.
