Im doing a replay and happen to go back to the room where you meet Death. Slogra/Gaibon were suddenly there briefly before retreating together.

Looking it up: Apparently if you enter the next area but go back to that room before encountering them as a boss it occurs.

Neat little story telling you usually miss. I like when Im still getting surprised by favorite old gems of games.

Gaibons projectiles? Dont think I noticed that. I wonder if you need the Cube of Zoe active for that to happen.

In the Dracula X Chronicles version of SOTN, you can keep your Alucard gear by just holding left on the d-pad as soon as Alucard walks into the room where Death is in the first area.

I thought i was so clever when i found out you can just input the magic combos without actually buying the tomes. Also soul stealing candles saved my ass so many times

Yeah, once I noticed the Street Fighter style movements for spells in my first playthrough back in the day I just started to experiment and unlocked a few on my own. Soul Steal and Tetra Spirit both had solid uses, with special 'funsie' cases for Hellfire.

Btw: If you didn't know, holding 'up' during the invisible teleport while casting Hellfire will summon two lava orbs when you reappear; instead of the usual three fireballs. The lava orbs can pass through multiple enemies.

I learned this recently from a series of SotN YouTube shorts that keep popping up for me. If you ever need to listen to Alucard say "I'm interested in this" a million times, while some nerd goes over short facts about the game, its a good way to spend several hours

I'm surprised people didn't know this, but I guess most people actually just kill Slogra and Gaibon. As a kid, they were a massive fucking wall to me and I explored the first chunk of the castle over and over, so I always knew they were there. Apparently they're usually in areas of the castle near Death, so it tracks they'd be keeping watch over the room he was in.

If you're really interested in this kinda stuff, there's a great video series called The Annotated SOTN. He goes through and completes the game, giving the trivia and background for every single enemy, item, and area along the way.

Edit: I guess me watching a few minutes of one of those videos infected my algorithm. I got one of the shorts you're talking about and it's from this same guy lol

Did you know you can play SOTN where the castle is upside-down?

Just free Richter Belmont from Shaft's dark spell instead of defeating him.

Never understood why everybody loved this.
I rented it and the game glitched on me, putting me at the last boss battle.
It glitches so hard so it was impossible to die.
I defeated Dracula easy as pie.
I didn't want to spoil the ending so I reset the game and got the same start at the last boss glitch. I tried multiple times and it glitches every time.
I got so tired of it so I returned it the same day.

That's a "game disk was scratched to hell and back due to being a rental" issue and not a problem with the game's code.

SotN probably has the most secrets Ive ever seen in a game. Like why put in a narrow gap under the librarian so you can high jump him and get secret armor? Lol

Okay, fair enough on the Rondo bit.

That being said, it is possible to glitch through the gate at the start of the main game, allowing you to explore an unfinished cave section, which IIRC was added later to the Sega Saturn version of the game.

In the Dracula X Chronicles version of SOTN, you can keep your Alucard gear by just holding left on the d-pad as soon as Alucard walks into the room where Death is in the first area.
In other versions of the game, you can keep your Alucard gear by using the luck mode cheat (which gives you abysmally low stats except for your luck, which is now much higher than it otherwise would be), removing all of your equipment, and getting hit by a Warg at just the right angle so that the damage-recoil flings you past the cutscene where Death steals your stuff. You can re-equip everything after that.

Then, go into the Alchemy Laboratory, immediately turn around and go back to the Castle Entrance area, and go back to Death's room to fight Slogra and Gaibon there. Thanks to an event flag glitch, the game now thinks Death already took your gear because you've hit the flag that triggers Slogra and Gaibon's hidden fight here (if you don't fight them here and now, then the next time you enter that room after beating their regular boss fight, Death will appear like he should have).

I think this works in every version of the game, but I know for sure that it does in the original PS1 release. However, you do need to have beaten the game at least once before in order to use the luck mode cheat (at least on PS1, anyway).

No need to do the glitch in the DXC and Requiem versions, though. As far as I know, luck mode has never required a clear game in every version of SOTN.
