I think you're the first person I've seen binge 700 episodes before burnout. That's like 2 episodes a day for a full year. You still got 4-500 episodes to go too lmao.

First burnout happened after Alabasta. Too much sand. After that it was banger after banger... until Zou.

And seeing the next two arcs are going to be like 300+ episodes... goddamn. I got thru Dressrosa in 2 weeks so theoretically I could be done with Wano in 1.5 months.

One Piece anime never gets better than Alabasta.

Definitely came real close with Impel Down, but the anime's pacing started to nosedive there and only gets worse and worse.

Actually, I'd say I got a little burnt out during Thriller Bark and Punk Hazard too. I took some breaks during those arcs.

If you're talking pacing, East Blue is about 50 episodes for 100 chapters. That 2 to 1 ratio definitely goes down even by the time Alabasta happens, though it's not 1 to 1 yet.

The animation quality has jumped up a lot recently, so even though it's poorly paced it at least looks a lot better than when it was crappy looking and poorly paced.

There's also something to be said about the pacing of the manga, which actually benefits the anime's 1 to 1 adaptation style in modern times.

Stand out episode. Sanji might be my favorite character now. Couldnt really decide between him, Zoro, and Robin. I feel like his back story with Zeff was the best and now add in his shitty family. Beauty in sadness.

Such a brutal scene. The Pudding reveal was so good and also so harsh.

The opening for this section (Hope) is amazing and perfect for the arc. Just fits the story so perfectly. The emotion with the crew coming for Sanji.

Whole Cake doesn't get enough credit.

Finished a few more spring series:

The Too-Perfect Saint: Tossed Aside by My Fianc and Sold to Another Kingdom was like a mix of banished anime and villainess anime, kinda, and it was... okay. The villains were so evil that they annoyed me, and got too much screentime throughout the season. Screentime was split between the MC, Philia, and her sister, Mia, so the side cast never really got enough development. The love interest princes were boring. I didn't hate it, but I've liked similar series way more (The Saint's Magic Power Is Omnipotent, for example).

Aharen Is Indecipherable 2nd Season was a step down from S1. While S1 is like 95% comedy and 5% romance, this one's more like 50/50, to its detriment. The romance is cute and all, but it's not why I'm here. Still, the comedy was excellent when it was there, and I had a good time. Fun that it completely adapted the manga.

Maebashi Witches started out bad but ended up pretty solid. It feels pretty real with the way it deals with real-world issues like fatphobia and social media addiction and was at its best when it was doing so. The last arc was kinda unsatisfying, though.

Zatsu Tabi wasn't too impressive as far as SoL series go. Mediocre cast, and the focus felt like it was more on the locations than the people going there. It was never really bad, but never compelled me. Really felt like a tourism ad more than a lot of these series do.

Gundam finished.

I don't know if I've ever been this frustrated with a series.

It started so strong and got me so interested, and had such insane moments and fantastic scenes, but in the end it's a confused, rushed mess with utterly wasted potential that didn't earn anything about it's ending or forced character developments. It's leads are utterly wasted as independant characters to instead be used as tools for this masturbatory setting. I find myself struggling not to outright hate this anime despite liking almost every episode in a vacuum. What happened here? Did they plan for 2 cours and get told they had just 1 at the last second? I don't even know if that would have helped. A second season certainly wouldn't help, despite the downright gagworthy attempt to shoehorn in a tease.

Utter failure at making Shuji a character worth caring about then making him the absolute linchpin of the plot. No actual romantic tension between him and Machu at all, yet they still makeout in the climax. Nyaan is more interesting than anyone else in this entire series and she's completely sidelined, an utter fucking waste of her character. So many things setup that just get no actual payoff or expansion.

Frustrating. So frustrating. I'm mad.

It's done for real? No continuation coming?

Nothing announced. Left what could be considered room for more I suppose but made no attempt to actually imply one.

At the end of the first cour of GWitch, a show that intentionally goes out of it's way to keep it's main character's growth stunted up until that time as a point of it's plot, I still knew far more about Suletta than I did literally any character in this show after it's completion.

It's just....it's a waste. It's such a waste. I wonder if the people who originally put this setting together are as frustrated with the final product as I am. The character designers. The story planners. Every one of these new characters has such potential and it just didn't happen.

I hate what happened here. And the thing is I'm sure so many people are going to defend it because it looks great and they clapped and cheered at all the UC stuff. "I recognize that, I know what that is!". I'm strawmanning here right now, but I just have no doubt whatsoever these people exists.

Ughhhhh I was just so, so excited for this show, even all the way up until after last week's episode. And the thing is I knew this was probably coming. I was almost certain. But I buried it down in the hole that I would be wrong an somehow they would make it all work.

Machu and Nyaan just being like "OH OK it's forgiven let's team up now". I don't know if anything ever has been less earned. I have never been more upset to be given what I wanted. Just embarrassing. That gunshot scene last episode just utterly wasted on this finale.

I wanna go full Chris Redfield and punch some boulders.

It's such a shame. The last 3 episodes could've been a whole 12 episodes. I don't have strong feelings for any of the characters, probably due to the rushed nature of the show. One thing is for sure, whoever directed the ED and the ending scene are into feet.

Saw someone say GQuuuuuuX feels like a rebuild show for another Gundam show that doesn't exist.

I wanna watch that show.

I wish we got a Rebuild, at least it was fleshed out even if it had different ending than the original TV series.

With the day behind me I've decided that I just can't bring myself to say the show is still good.

I generally feel like the journey is worth more than the destination in most cases, but at some point in the back half of this series, you couldn't stop thinking about the destination, and it made the journey hard to engage with.

It's like a rollercoaster, but from the top of the incline you look down and over and see the cops at the end of the ride waiting to take you in.

Oh ya beated some actually good shows.

Apocalypse Hotel is the best original anime in years, definitely at least since Akudama Drive for me. I love to see an episodic show done well. Every episode is bursting with creativity. It uses the premise of robots running a hotel after humanity has died out to the fullest, with each episode giving us something totally different. The animation is fantastic, to boot, giving us some of the prettiest scenes of the season!

Speaking of episodic masterpieces, A Ninja and an Assassin Under One Roof is my favorite show of the season and of the year so far. The relationship between the eponymous ninja and assassin is fantastic, with Konoha's contempt and Satoko's sweetness making for a perfect match, especially as we gradually learn that Satoko is the more sociopathic of the two. There's plenty of comedy, but it can be extremely dark at times, with the robot episode being the best episode of any anime this year. The animation here is fantastic too, giving us all the SHAFTisms we don't see much in modern anime. I absolutely adored this series, and it's what I most looked forward to watching every week.

Please Put Them On, Takamine-san was a bit of a disappointment. I expected a fanservice series with the girl abusing her slave a bunch, but instead there's a lot more lovey dovey stuff than I would've liked. Eh.

Shoshimin Series 2nd Season was an improvement over S1 in most ways. It didn't have as many stinkers, and it still had some great climaxes. The first half was kinda slow imo, and it could've benefited from being an episode shorter, plus it didn't have nearly enough Osanai, who is by far the best character in the show. The second half was excellent though, especially since it made Kobato way more likable than he was in S1. The leads didn't talk nearly as much about wanting to be ordinary too, to my great relief.

Rock Is a Lady's Modesty was one of the more disappointing series this season. The band performances all kinda suck, and the pacing is really slow for the first few episodes. I did quite like the cast though. It's a shame that in a season where we got real yuri (Ninja Assassin), we're stuck with bait in Rock Lady.

I did watch thr last episode of Apoc Hotel.

Still not for me.

It's certainly trying to be creative and unique each episode, but more of them missed than hit for me. It just felt weird and random rather than fun and creative.

Best two episodes by far for me were making the brewery and the apocalypse alien. In that order.

Interesting. Episode 11, Yachiyo's day off, was my favorite.

That is probably my 3rd favorite

By far the worst episode imo is the candy bomber/detective episode. That one was awful.

One Piece Ep 878

Whole Cake Island arc finished! What a fantastic arc! From start to finish I was invested. I think the only thing that bothered me was how Oven and his powers seemed stronger than Aces. That rubbed me the wrong way idk. But everything else was just pure cinema. And with that my rankings are:

Whole Cake Island > Marineford > Impel Down > Enies Lobby > Water 7 > Saboady > Skypiea > Alabasta > Return to Saboady > Zou > Fishman Island > Punk Hazard > Thriller Bark > East Blue

Two movies up next: Episode of East Blue & Skypiea. Im guessing these are just recaps? Then 13 episodes of Reverie and then the 208 episodes of WANO. Maybe Ill take a break now.

Those movies are just recap/remakes of the original arcs. I'd just skip them.

Glad to see you enjoyed Whole Cake. It doesn't get as much attention as it deserves imo.

Oven's power is more limited but better at doing that specific thing. It doesn't give the defensive advantage of a logia. He can't jet boost around or do some of the crazy moves that Ace had.
But when it comes to generating heat, he is the best at it.

Betrother to my Sister's Ex could actually be good, but boy I fucking hate how people over there seem to think freckles are unattractive. The unkempt, freckled version of the main girl is ten times more attractive than the generic look her "fixed" version has. Actually making me reconsider checking it out lol.
