You cant use it first turn, you cant use it on a Pokemon you played during your turn, and you still need the stage 2 Pokemon in your hand. Lets say you have everything you need in hand/on the bench already - youd need 2 turns to evolve into stage 1 then 2, versus only needing 1 turn to use Rare Candy to go from basic to stage 2. The speed can be really useful especially if youre evolving into something with a good Ability. If you can tolerate some of the hand-holding and linearity, I think theyre charming and have some great aesthetics/music, plus its the last time before dexit happened so every Pokmon up to that point can be used in those games. Gen 9 is legitimately fun, not perfect by any means but definitely worth checking out. --- I'll tell you where the real road lies: Between your ears, behind your eyes. I built a Beedrill deck and its seriously some of the most fun Ive had playing this game. Its a hard fight against fire decks, but it feels so fun to get Beedrill EX up in like two turns and start disrupting your opponents energy. Plus standard Beedrill is a nice flex to have in case of Oricorio or to sometimes snipe a low-HP basic early in a match with Rare Candy.
