some of the battle shots looked like that might be, but unless the mine craft part auto builds in 2D Im not really sure of either

As for gameplay, the Steam screenshots look like it's basically like a 3D Pokemon game with turn-based battles.

A good chunk of Pokmon derivatives, clones, and fan games are obsessed with setting themselves apart by being excessively edgy, "mature", "dark", etc. and some people really clamour for an "adult" version of Pokmon. It almost always ends up feeling incredibly stupid and juvenile in ways that make the regular children's Pokmon series seem downright sophisticated, especially when these games don't have good designs or anything else going for them.

I don't know how this game will end up, but I wish more devs making Pok-clones focused more on making good games ahead of trying to painstakingly show us how not-Pokmon and not-for-children they are. I'm glad there's more of these games being made, but the genre is looking bleak with Pokmon continuing to go completely uncontested.

I don't think "being Pokemon but edgy" is necessarily a dealbreaker on its own. Conceptually, a world like Pokemon would lend itself well to a darker story - creatures with magical powers making the wilderness incredibly dangerous, people "capturing" these creatures being able to wage full-on wars with small groups. Pokemon itself has a lot of room for a darker tone.

And in this case specifically, combining the Pokemon formula with wilderness survival feels like a solid foundation for a story that isn't afraid to get into more tragic circumstances. It took me by surprise how grim it got, and how quickly, but I don't see it necessarily as a downside, just an unexpected direction.

I'm actually pretty interested in this! I just hope it's a case of "you choose one of the two playable characters and the other one gets tragedy'd", rather than it always being the girl who suffers~
