Sometimes food won't come off.

You're expressly not supposed to clean your dishes before putting them into the dishwasher, the soap actually needs grime to properly activate so if you put too clean of dishes in your dishes will oddly enough get less clean overall.

I get stuff like loose rice and whatnot off, but I don't scrub away sauce/grease or anything.

Enough to get the detritus.

Ill do a quick wipe with a paper towel if a particular dish is really bad but otherwise they go in dirty.

Yes because otherwise those bits of food get thrown around violently and can etch the other dishes.

I grew up always wanting a dishwasher and when I bought my house I was so glad to have one and after a year I stopped using it. Haven't used it in 20 years. I just wash by hand as I go now.

With that being said when I did use it I always washed plates off before going in. A dishwasher is nothin but a sterilizer to me, not actually made for washing food off. Especially shit like egg yolk or any sauce that has dried. You gotta rinse that stuff off in my opinion.

Only if Im not running it that night. Can often get away with every other night.

Your dishwasher won't clog if you clean the filter regularly.

It's the line between "dumping a mostly-finished bowl of spaghetti and marinara in the washer as-is" versus "dumping a bowl with marinara remnants in the washer as-is" for me.

Sauces and grease and whatnot will break down easily enough, noodles not so much.

You're supposed to dump the larger food chunks in the trash then toss it in the dishwasher. No one's putting whole ass noodles into the wash lol

We always did our dishes by hand growing up.

I had a friend whose mom threw dirty ass dishes in the washer and the plates and silverware always had shit crusted on them afterwards.

I still do most of my stuff by hand but Ill run the washer if theres a bunch of stuff and Ive rinsed it all off well.

The draino topic last week made me wonder how many people here could disassemble a p-trap on a sink.

Regarding dishwashers the rule of thumb is scrape anything off that's larger than a grain of rice. I usually rinse my dishes because my dishwasher is kinda crappy
