I think Allen said something like "Oops, I don't have time to actually read all of these suspensions!" and tended to default to not perma banning anyone besides a new user account.

Absolutely should have been a Ban, I'm not arguing in favor of that lenient horseshit, it's just a pet peeve of mine.

One would think a guy literally saying "I fucked underage children when I visited abroad" might have resulted in someone going "I should make a note of this..."

That's a strict liability crime even if it's legal where you visit so if someone admitted to that they should be reported to the FBI.

I'll be honest I completely checked out of the gamer community entirely at that time and just played shit.

I don't even care who was in the wrong that entire fucking thing was obviously childish rage for the sake of rage. Admittedly only know the surface level stuff and don't care to know more. Shit was shameful.

Almost everyone involved in that nonsense came out the other end looking worse, and some never moved on at all, mostly on the right

No it didn't start here. While Steve Bannon capitalized on an opportunity to create a GG Alt-Right pipeline (and GG came later than Anita's TVWIVG) misogyny is as old as civilization itself. But if you're specifically looking for organized misogynistic communities that would be things like pick up artists, puahate (the og incel community before incels had a name, frequented by people like Elliot Rodger), New Atheism, MRAs, and MGTOWs.

GG and Anita's harassment campaigns seem like bigger deals to you because they probably impacted you more specifically, but the ball had already been rolling long before then.

Given how poor her work was, if people had just ignored her no one would have known who she was. Instead people went berserk and she fed on the rage to keep attention on herself. The more vile and completely over the top violent peoples response to her was the more credibility she seemed to gain when she should have just been disregarded.

I honestly don't even fully understand the gamer gate thing. By the time it caught my attention (years ago when it first started) it had moved past whatever it was originally about and was focused on how vile people were being online. I had no desire to wade into that mire and muck about to find out what people were angry about since it didn't impact me at all.

It's continued to today where these people go incoherently berserk and make people immediately want to do the opposite of what they desire because of how over the top their reaction to even the most minor of supposed "infractions" are.

I don't think she's was trying to say that these things had some kind of oppressive presence everywhere you looked, she was just pointing out examples of things and her problems with them.

Thing is in some cases she exaggerated things, Badly presented others, and in other cases just went off on some weird bullshit that really made no sense(The whole hitman thing with deriving gratification from killing female npc's)

It also didn't help that yes.. she stole the gameplay footage for some of her videos from other youtubers and art assets from online artists without asking or sourcing them until she got called out

Tbh isnt taking gameplay footage fair use? Those streamers are playing someone elses product to make a video anyway.

It's an ethical issue not a legal one. Legally the copyright is owned by the game publisher. Ethically it's a dick move to copy someone's video without asking for permission first.

Yeah, it's using someone else's work for your video without compensation or credit, which is pretty not good

Also for someone who clearly wanted to be seen as an authoritative figure in the subject plagiarism is really frowned upon.

Don't forget that Hitman punishes you by deducting points from your score if you do things like killing folks who aren't your targets.
