Like, Casual and Story modes somehow STILL aren't accessible enough for these people.

I guess we need a "Just let me win. Thanks." mode. You kill all enemies in one hit, you can never die, you have unlimited of every resource.

There. Are you engaged with the game now? What is even the point - just watch a Youtube playthrough or some stuff.

Like honestly - I wonder how these people deal with the slightest amount of resistance or difficulty in the waking world. I know we play games to unwind, but if everything in the game is just a punching bag what is even the point?

I'm sure people enjoy the stuff they pay for in all kinds of ways that wouldn't appeal to me.

Why, they listen to vinyl records on Crossley suitcase turntables and read books without getting all the literary allusions!

And that's completely fine.

Arise's issue wasn't that it needed to be easier, but that the second half of the game needed the enemies to have massively reduced health. It was never any challenge to beat anything, but good lord was that final dungeon pure misery sheerly because you had to face a billion enemies that each had a billion heath that you had to chip away at for hours.

A major part of being a Souls player is the staunch belief that literally anyone else makes a massive stink about difficulty options in their games. And that there is some sort of massive mob of people out there that exists for the sole purpose removing literally all difficulty from games.

In my own experience, I pretty frequently stumble upon people on different message boards like "I heard this game has parrying. That's too bad - I can't play games with that." Or "I think the game looks cool but I've hear it's pretty hard - that's a shame."

Like - how fucking risk averse are some people? You rage at the very first time you die in any game? You bump into the Goomba in Mario 1-1 and say "fuck this game!"

I'm not playing these easier than easy game modes because for me it's the combination of story and gameplay. If I was just going to watch the story I can go on YouTube. Like, FF7 has a great, memorable story but I couldn't imagine playing it on easy one of these easy modes.

But I don't care if other people like these modes and use them.

I'm a bit ambivalent about these topics.

On the one hand, accessibility is not a dirty word, no movie skill checks you to see if you are worthy to see the ending after all.

Many enjoyers of video games may also have physical disabilities or have simply aged beyond the requirements of old that stipulated level memory, practice, and razor sharp reactions that classic titles required.

Personally I see no great issue in presenting the player with a variety of difficulty options, but offering bonuses to those opting for higher challenge levels.

I wouldn't go that far.

The balance envisioned by the creator is part of the experience. It's part of gameplay, which should always be the first consideration in video game development.

I might advocate for lower difficulty levels to aid accessibility, but I'm not yet at the stage I'd choose them, nor do I think they should be default.

So funfact, I'm an absolute fumble at the knifeplay in the Resi 4 remake, but I still got the Cat Ears. You just gotta compensate for the things you're weak at.

That said, TCs acting pretty wild, the only person I ever really see getting worked up about there needing to be lower difficulty levels is Jim Sterling.

If it's anything like last time we had this conversation, they're simultaneously nowhere and everywhere, which is why people keep starting this fight preemptively.

Can't actually go to the people making the argument, just gotta beam it into the ether and hope for the best.

Its not a perfect game but damn I didn't think it was that bad overall. The last few hours weren't great both story and gameplay wise but I thought it was a good enough Tales game.

Its a better game than Tales of Zesteria IMO, and i like that game too.

It depends what they are looking for.

Some people get enough challenge in other areas of their life and just want a relaxing, almost interactive story, experience when they play.
