'Soccer'

Not entirely boring but I find it hard to keep up with the ball when things get hectic, plus I would be silently praying that I don't see a injury take place. 'American Dad' already swore me off from soccer with that episode where the babysitter had her shin split.

I find most sports pretty boring to watch. Golf is an obvious answer, but most people don't bring up team sports. Some people will bring up baseball, since there's a lot of standing around. Honestly, I think American Football is super fucking boring. Move 10 yard....set up again. Move 10 yard...set up again.

It's funny when people make this claim about Soccer when it has the least amount of time wasting in any sport. You have baseball where they can stop the game at any time to have a long conversation, and then in soccer you only get to make three subs throughout the whole game with 0 time outs.

Golf also has plenty of time wasting, you just don't see it as much because there are so many golfers they can just keep cutting to another one.

I enjoy American Football but really if you cut out every wasted second in that game it would be like 25-30 minutes of the actual game being played. To get through that 25-30 minutes it takes well over 2 hours which is just absurd.

Golf is the best sport to watch because it has meaningful story progression.

Golf. Golf is too thinky a game to make for entertaining tv. By the time a player takes a visible action there have been a dozen things that you aren't privy to because you can't hear the internal monolague that drives their decisions.

Soccer

You hope the ball eventually makes it towards you, you kick it, it may or may not end up in your desired place..
If you're lucky, you'll score a goal and have the opportunity to run towards your teammates, shirtless, where lots of hand slapping occurs..

Golf takes precision, skill, knowledge of equipment and weather conditions, plus swinging a club and smacking the crap out of a golf ball is more fun than kicking

Soccer could benefit a lot by making the field smaller. I mean they can have their regular FIFA soccer, just make a version with a smaller field (and possibly smaller nets as well in proportion to the field size)

Like that poster said, golf has progression.

Soccer is just dudes running back and forth, and 99% of the time , there is no progress. Because ball travels back and forth and at such rapid pace, very little suspense or tension is amassed. Their highlights, despite loftier demands of athleticism and stamina, are even less interesting or remarkable than golf's.

I mean if they wanted more scoring they could also just eliminate the off-sides rules. It would likely destroy any integrity scoring a goal ever had, but they could try it and see what happens.

The only reason you see less goals in a game like that is because that rule is upheld and it's very strict. There is no way they ever shrink the field though, it's an endurance sport and the large field is part of it. Shit the distance traveled by a typical midfielder in soccer makes the distance traveled by a basketball player look like a joke.

I appreciate that the scoring system in golf makes every shot significant. I can turn on a golf tournament at random for 5 minutes and what I see will impact the outcome.

By contrast, I can watch soccer for 20 minutes and there's a good chance neither team makes any progress towards winning. As a viewer who doesn't understand the game well enough to recognize good/bad plays, that makes it impossible for me to get engaged.

It would only do that if you compare scores before offsides was a rule and scores after offside became a rules and only if the scores were the same as they are now.

The rule is there to prevent what you are saying. It's like passing a law to stop something happening.

It was not thrilling to watch strikers literally standing on the opposing goalies line waiting for the ball to come close after all.

The games was just hoofing the ball from one side to the other basically. the rule was made to prevent goal hogging and lack of skill to that effect as even a grand mother could probably score some goals doing that.
