They wanted $75 to replace the engine and cabin filters

The filters are about $26 together and take literally two minutes to replace

Cabin filters can sometimes be in iffy spots.

But I mean yeah the car service industry is pretty jacked. Unless something recently changed, the compensation framework forces technicians to rush jobs.

I dunno man, I'll forever be grateful for the dealership that replaced the entire engine on an 8 year old car with 100k miles on it at no charge because of a recall.

We had just bought that car 98 days prior, and of course the dealership (that we bought it from; not the one who repaired it) had a 90 day warranty.

But Hyundai footed the bill. We were shocked, and (obviously) relieved.

I have been car shopping recently and all the salesmen have told lies. For example, they mention how I'd have to pay higher sales taxes in other areas but that's complete bullshit since the car buying tax in my state is based on where you register the car and live, not where you buy it.

It's a recall, and especially this type is mandatory in big picture due to the liability implications with the brand.

Manufacturer pays the dealership back, and I assume in this case the dealership has done enough Hyundai engine replacements, they're able to do it efficiently for their worthwhile.

For warranty/recall work yeah they're fine, but all the extra basic maintenance shit is ridiculously overpriced

That's what I thought at first. I read it like "replace your engine and you cabin filters". Not, "replaced the filters for my engine and cabin". I thought maybe it was some joke about paying for a warranty deal or something. LOL

Always replace your air filters right before you get an oil change. The real shady places dont even look at them and tell you they need to be replaced. If that happens just dip right away.

I stopped going to the service center at my dealership after they screwed up my car twice in a row. I was driving home the one day and smelled hot brakes, so I took my car in, they supposedly fixed it and gave it back to me but it wasn't fixed, I took it back, they "fixed" it, I went to drive it and the other side was now getting hot, took it back a third time and they finally fixed it right, and then I never went there again. They screwed up my parents car as well, it's just not worth it.

Find a reliable local mechanic. Odds are they branched out on their own because they themselves were sick of dealerships / chains screwing over their customers, and they know they actually have to earn your repeat business.

It really depends. Our local one came up to our store and said they would give mine a going over. They found a few things

I have a Ford Edge with the turbo. My previous one didnt have a issue but the ones from 2015-2020 have a internal water pump(never a good idea). If it fails its a total engine failure. About 2k to replace. Its under recall till it fails. From what I read online its about 200k miles when it happens....Its at 110k now.

I just had like $1300 worth of work done on my car at the dealership. Shopped around first but every mechanic was charging the same, plus saying it would take multiple days vs 1 day at the dealership. Plus they hooked me up with a free Lyft to and from my office.

One of the things they wanted to do was actually a replacement of the engine air filter for $75 lol. Did it myself for $22.

Yep...best way is to try to find a local shop you trust the most and don't use dealership service centers at all.
