I'm not going to live long enough to retire. But I'll probably keep doing my current job until I'm dead.

I thought so, but my job for the last 17 years is mostly federally funded, and my country voted for corrupt chaos.

Not sure, but maybe? Im still at least a good 1015 years out from that. On one hand, I expect there to be some form of restructuring or layoffs between now and then, and Ill happily take a severance. Just seems likely in that long amount of time.

Depending on if and when that ever happens Ill see how much of a rush Ill need to be in to get a new job. Maybe Ill just go down to part time. Who knows.

Hard to say. I want to say that I would 100% be okay retiring with my current company. But that's 20+ years away.

i got a 20% raise switching jobs in 2022, and then 25% raise again with a new job in 2023

Ive started looking again, not super seriously, but there are a lot of senior roles out there that Im now qualified for that would be another 25-30% raise

i dont love the whole interview process, and i have no complaints about my current job but if other places are going to pay me way more money for more or less the same work it doesnt make sense to stay tied to the same place. in an ideal world I could just stick to the same place and get those raises but thats not how companies typically work

I'm about to start a new job but I don't see myself working for another 20 years. I already have a retirement and I'm financially responsible enough to make it and my retirement accounts work for me.

Yes. Next month Ill be starting year 27. Great retirement where they contribute double what I put in up to a certain percentage. Free insurance. Tons of paid sick leave and vacation and other benefits. Good atmosphere (Its a major Division 1 state college). I love my schedule and while I could make more money at the city utility Im still paid well for my area and when you factor in the benefits not everything is about the $ per hour.

My life is pretty chill and this job has been extremely good to me. Zero complaints.

I did it backwards. I've been a NEET for 25 years straight and my hope is I stay a NEET the rest of my life. But I'll probably have to get a job someday.

It has the possibility. Like, I lowkey hope so for stability, but the pay is frightfully low for what I do.
So it's a stability vs. possible income issue.

Work is slow in the government especially compared to industry but the projects are never boring and I care more about helping the military (it's still basic research that applies beyond that) a lot more than lining the pockets of some worthless sack of shit techbro

I hope so. I could be making more money elsewhere but I enjoy my job and the people I work with enough that I feel the lesser pay is worth it for my mental healths sake.
