Randy Pitchford seems like a real b-hole.

He's an asshole straight to the point. The entire issues surrounding the original voice actor for Claptrap just proves that. He kept the character but hired copycats to do the voice.

Also, is the game going to be on Game Pass? I'll skip buying it and play it there instead if it is.

Not every hobby is created equally. Some are going to be more costly than others. For video games, if you know the hobby well enough you can get them for dirt cheap. Doesn't take away from the fact that people will find a way to play a game day 1 regardless of the price. Tears of the Kingdom still sold incredibly well even when there was controversy at being priced at $70's.

I wish people didn't pay full price for their games, but I can't stop people in how they will spend their money. I almost never buy a game day 1 unless there's some kind of discount to it. The last game I paid over $30's for was Expedition 33 because it was 10% off.

And how exactly do you pirate an $80 game at release? Sure, there are other games to play, but people want the new releases. They want the community and the hype. Theres zero reason for these billion dollar corporations to hike prices. How big does the CEOs yacht have to be?

Not gonna call myself a real fan of a series that peaked with the first installment. Or rather, second installment for most.

Getting tears of the Kingdom for $50 was super easy, barely an inconvenience.

I confess, I'm not following that scene, but it wasn't that many years ago that they released big name releases weeks before launch date, don't tell me that the standard have been lowered so much so we have to wait months for new releases?

That said, and I'm going to get blasted for this, I'm probably still going to buy it Day 1 because I fucking love Borderlands. Even the shitty story ones.

Don't get me wrong though, this is probably the only series I will instant buy day 1. If Yoshi P came out and said the same thing I would have no problem not buying another Final Fantasy or the next FF MMO game. If Kojima came out and said the same thing I wouldn't buy whatever game he puts out next.

Still got everything released in a package that cost less than the launch base game price.

This is amazing, you literally answered your own question why people pay full price for day 1 games. Here's a kicker, you live in a Capitalistic society so if a company releases a game at a certain price and enough people buy it to make them go in the green, they'll fucking do it again. Capitalism requires consistent consumption, which is why companies are incentivize to get you to spend money on them. I don't like it (many times it's predatory), but that's just reality.

Ask this question to people who buy games at full price in day 1 releases or spend bajillion dollars on mobile gacha games to get their waifu in a bikini or wedding dress. You may not like it, but neither of us can dictate how people will spend their money. Tbf, if you're expecting gamers to take a principled stance on videogame pricing and avoid a title cause it's $80, I think you're going to be disappointed.

I don't think Mario Kart at 80 bucks will sell gangbusters: Nintendo is bundling it so players save 30 bucks on it at release. Otherwise, why do that so soon?

When 2 came out, I waited until Black Friday 2 months later and bought it with a nice discount

I'm with you... Randy always seems to put his foot in his mouth but I'll still buy Borderlands 4 since I love the series... Will even try to grab a CE if they make them since I got the ones from 2 and 3 already...

Borderlands is a series that goes on sale within like 6 months. I'm fine with holding out.

I got the Handsome collection new for $15. I play solo anyway so no big deal. $80 is out of my price range. I'm frugal. I'll pay for something more than I need to because I want to support the company. The Sukioden remasters and Tactics Ogre Reborn are good example of this

After the DLC for Tina I'm not feeling particularly charitable towards the company.

That was legitimately the worst I've ever seen from the company.

Like I really liked 1 and 2 but the style of those games is such a late 2000s thing I dunno how they could possibly still remain relevent now.

They're still some of the funnest co-op games out there. The writing might be hit or miss, but I honestly don't understand how people are lauding any sort of series' writing that gave them Butt Stallion anyways.

Borderlands is fun, but these games frequently go on sale for ridiculously low, often sub-$10, prices. The collection that has them all goes on sale all the time too, for as low a 30~45 USD. Pulling a 2006 Sony over higher prices and the reaction to them is fucking hilariously out of touch and stupid. Yeah, players will definitely find a way to make it happen, lmao.

iirc, 2K was the first to push the $70 price point for "next gen" versions of games. They're probably relieved that Nintendo and Microsoft are taking most of the heat for the $80 jump while waiting to jack their prices up too, lol.
