The main reason why is because I'm not benefitting much from my online web development course. I've already learnt a lot of the things being covered on my own time, having researched the subject thoroughly before taking the course. In case you're wondering why, then, I bothered to enroll at all, I will inform you that I have a habit of mentally ingesting the material for a given course before it comes time for the lecturer of that course to talk about it; I did just the same during my college days. In any case, from an educational standpoint, I am not benefitting much if at all from the online web development course that I'm taking. The video lectures that I must sit through are excruciating; I absolutely abhor having to listen to people talk in general, and having to listen to them talk via video is even worse. When I do put on a video lecture, I will usually do so out of completionist's sake, and I will be muting it and turning on the closed captions so that I needn't listen to it. I'm not the biggest fan of listening to people talk, as you can infer. This course is the second of a series of courses that will eventually culminate in my obtaining certification in junior web development. I don't want to miss out on signing up for the last course, because of reasons that have to do with the sunken cost fallacy; I'm sure you can figure out the rest. I also want more exposure to web development; I want to hear more about APIs, best practices, and the sort. I haven't been getting a whole lot of that by taking the course, and it's just a problem I have with any sort of language I code in. Frequenting Reddit channels dedicated to the language in question helps with exposure and informational osmosis. All in all, I consider myself disappointed, that a paid course has resulted in such a dissatisfying learning experience. I'm basically in it at this point to get my certification and to get out of there. I feel like I'm enchained whenever I think about how I'm in school again. Anyway, this is enough pretentious babbling for one day. How was your Saturday, board?

I must have these answers.

Sounds like you want an advanced course.
I too grow bored with those courses. Sometimes presentation videos are way better. Like this one
https://youtu.be/cCOL7MC4Pl0?si=KeLspRqEAXJa4nou
Some of the most valuable info I've ever gotten from web dev is in that video. If you've never seen it it's a truely great video and every web dev should watch it

I used to do web development, but at the moment its not a good choice. All the tools we have are simple enough for anyone to do it, and creates pages that are surprisingly diverse and work perfectly well. Unless you have some very unique personal projects planned, its just not worth the time you'd have to invest.

A web dev cert is only as good as its ability to get you a job. Nobody can really say for sure if it'll help, but so many people are trying to get into development that it's unlikely it will make a big difference. Work experience or actual degrees will do far more, then there's the wild card of personal projects, which could probably go on either end of that spectrum depending on how impressive they are. Of course I'd say it also depends on how much of that cost you can recuperate at this point, as it's not like it hurts to have the cert if you're not gonna get that money back anyway.

ai

As lucrative as that may be, I am vehemently against that on principle.

Yes, I do; I'm not sure how unique they are, and I'm afraid to voice them in case someone feels like stealing my idea and implementing it before I do. <<';

My finances are seeing a net gain with each month. I'll keep on taking the course, if only to gain a marginal edge in the job market. Thanks, Mr. Colorado-Man!

That's not what I meant. It's not financially responsible to spend on things you are unsure are worth it even if you can afford them. I was saying like if you can't get any tuition back by dropping now, you may as well continue. If you'd save the tuition for the remainder of the uncompleted course, then it's probably worth considering dropping.

considering dropping

Yeah, I should. After seven years of an education that ultimately led nowhere, I should really stop doing mad things 'just for the paper', on principle alone. Again, thanks.

Running away, taking shortcuts, and not taking ownership seems to be the norm with PotD for as long as I can remember.

What a strangely vague, presumptuous, judgmental (wait that one checks out) and passive aggressive thing to say

Well, I'm not just going to waste my time doing something that won't help me better myself.

Tell me how this is applicable to anything I've written in the opening post of this topic.
