Iran doesn't really have the capability. It's more about the hypocrisy of this; to run for president on the platform that you're anti-war and can fix problems that already existed. Then the sheep just continue to graze no matter what you do after that. This is just another endless Middle East disaster the US can't keep from getting in.

It's important to realize that Trump was never anti-war and no one ever believed he was, least of all his supporters.

I wouldn't say no one. There is a clear rift in the base, at least there are some Republican critics questioning his "America First" policy and how this doesn't go along with that narrative. Not just those in power though, personally speaking, plenty of people I know that voted for Trump believed fully the claims about how if he were president the Ukrainian war wouldn't have began. Many of these simpletons truly do believe that Trump is such a great businessman that he could just talk his way through anything without the use of force; I've heard this response firsthand so you can't just say "no one ever believed" that. You're giving the people who would vote for him too much credit.

I have zero knoweledge about this I just asked ChatGPT and having 600kg of 60% enrichment uranium is still a threat and they can go to 90% in a matter of weeks, which would be enough to make like 10 nuclear bombs

Honestly, it's just a really stupid move all around. All the reporting I read in the past week stated that a bunker buster wouldn't be able to reach Fordow and you'd need to do multiple runs, landing successive bombs in the same spot. Maybe we did that, but it's still kind of an unknown if it would work and the idea that Trump is claiming it was "completely and totally obliterated" is just... something I don't think we could even know at this point. Even supposing it was, the place was supposedly evacuated some time ago and Iran is believed to have enough enriched uranium in other locations that like... this would at best result in a short delay.

This isn't even counting that our own intelligence had reached the conclusion that Iran wasn't working on a nuke... until Trump decided by fiat that that was wrong and forced his appointees to parrot him despite having previously saying the opposite. The reporting on that was that Israel's strikes on Iran had likely changed Iran's position to developing nukes and I'd expect these strikes to just cement that.

All that said I'm... not really sure where things go from here. Iran doesn't really have any good options moving forward. They don't have the capability to strike the US directly, presumably the US has moved its personnel and equipment away from areas in the region where they could strike (but with the incompetence of this administration who knows,) Iran was already exhausting its missiles on Israel, they can't really launch any kind of ground offensive because they're separated by other countries who surely would rather not get involved here... I guess if they're feeling desperate or spiteful enough they could try to close the Strait of Hormuz as a "fuck you" to the world economy but that will anger other Gulf states that rely on it for shipping oil...

I dunno, I feel like the strikes between them and Israel will continue... and then it just... hopefully settles down? Only now Iran will be deadset on getting a nuclear weapon for deterrence and the bombings, especially after the US did, will likely result in a rally-around-the-flag effect inside Iran so regime change is probably less likely than it otherwise would have been.

Literally I think the best move for the US for both its aims and really the world was to just fucking do nothing but Trump just couldn't have that.

I believe a large chunk of Trump doing this is to try and avoid mid term elections in some form.

They can't enrich it without sites that do enrichment. At this point the US and Israel are locked into constant, perpetual monitoring of Iran to make sure they don't rebuild their infrastructure or build new ones. At least until/unless the mullahs fall and are replaced with a government that is more friendly.

Yes, that was what Trump meant, and if that is a real quote, it was said eloquently and succinctly. I would add that another way to avoid endless war is to present a strong show of strength so that your enemies make deals to avoid war. If Democrats had a candidate capable of making statements that clear, powerful, and lacking in meaningless buzzwords, they might have won.

Nothing says clear and powerful quite like Trump's daily postings of all-caps and poor grammar.

Iran's parliament has endorsed closing the Strait of Hormuz. We'll see if they actually go through with it because as I mentioned there, a lot of countries would probably act to forcibly reopen it (though I'm not sure if they can feasibly make it safe for passenger/shipping based on what's been going on in the Red Sea, including other countries in the Middle East that depend on it for oil exports.)

At that point I think they probably draw a ground invasion from the US to remove the regime.
