For me it helps to accomplish small tasks, like cleaning or going for a walk. Just doing little things here and there helps me feel productive which helps me feel a bit less depressed than usual. Self-care really, and I don't mean the "treat yourself" type. I mean the awful unpleasant shit - keeping up with self-maintenance tasks. Showering as needed, keeping to a set bedtime and practicing good sleep hygiene, ensure all meds are taken as prescribed, keeping hydrated. It's all shit that I struggle with doing, lack of mental energy or execution dysfunction...but when I get myself to actually do it I feel so much better because I did something to care for myself. A recent book I read, How to Keep House While Drowning by KC Davis had a line that I felt strongly. It helps to remind myself that it's all physical in one way or another. My brain has trained itself to wallow in negative feedback loops that prevents me from doing the things I need to do to have it make with the happiness chemicals. Look back upon the worst moments of your life, and realize that you have surpassed them all. Each breath you take is all the greater victory over all the times you wanted to give up. And yeah, taking care of yourself helps too. Which is easier said than done when you're mentally in a hole, but little things build into greater things. i feel you TC. I've been unemployed for 3 months, and it's been a crazy up and down experience, especially from not hearing back from coworkers. A lot of the days I don't want to do anything. Also trying to get a laptop fixed right now so I can apply to more and being charged an arm and a leg what's been helping me/saving me though is -getting out of the house and exercising every day. For my physical and mental health. Being healthy is important. -talking to people. Family and friends. Even talking to regulars at the gym boosts my mood -writing down a list of things I need to get done every day. Be productive every day. This helps with your self worth. 1% everyday compounds. Looking for jobs, fixing stuff around the house, applying for certain things before deadlines What's not been helping me -sleeping most nights at 2-3am and just inconsistent sleep schedule in general -late night food binges -listening too much to sad music instead of music what I will do moving forward -fix my sleep to be more consistent and early. Not game late every night -manage my time better to be more productive and on time -read everyday -take a class/learn a skill that can help me with future jobs -spend more quality time with family and friends, and less Doom scrolling As someone with ADHD, work gave me structure and purpose. It's a lot harder now, but I have to do my best. My advice to you is get a good routine going, and get things done everyday, while working on yourself everyday a little. Prioritize your health. Make a list of goals, either texting yourself or writing it down, or on a word document. If can really help if you prepare ahead of time block out certain hours of the day. --- Less is more. this one's not for everyone, but I got rid of my smartphone and started to use a flip phone. kinda sucks cus most people I know use things like snapchat or facebook for keeping in touch, but the plus side is I don't touch social media whatsoever which means I'm not constantly comparing myself to everyone I see on there. started keeping a gratitude journal. It feels really, really cheesy at first, writing things like "today I'm grateful that..." but I do think it works. Maybe placebo, but over time I didn't really have to think hard about thinks I'm grateful for, lots of times that feeling will just happen in that moment. also started to do internet-free days. I'm kind of a hermit and terminally online if I'm not working, I think that had a big impact on my mental and emotional health. Now, once or twice a week, I'll unplug the network antenna from my PC and put it in one of those timed lock box things for the day finally is finding escape through hobbies.
