This looks super, super early. Just to compare it against P3R and Metaphor that were announced at the Xbox conference 2 years ago:

Both of these released the year after, but compared to those, P4R trailer has
* No release date or even year at all
* Nothing in terms of UI, combat, any character outside Yu, etc
* Clearly stating "Early development" in the footage
If Atlus is really targeting next year for P4R, they would have shown way more than this; 2027 or even 2028 is more likely imo. I don't think real work for P4R started until after the Answer DLC wrapped up not even a year ago.

All this makes you wonder what the hell is going on with P6, since I think it's unlikely that'll get announced until after P4R is out, meaning it might not even be out this decade.

I think people underestimate just how much Metaphor was effecting P6's development.

I know it's not literally the exact same overlap of teams, but I'm willing to bet that until Metaphor was in the polishing stages P6 was still in planning.

Wasn't a bunch of the Metaphor team made up of the former Etrian Odyssey team?

It's possible since the teams are probably more fluid than we think. It's just kinda weird since P6 should be the game that's pulling people from other teams than the other way around (eg I'd have expected Metaphor to first pull from SMT if it needed more manpower than from Persona).

Just pure speculation but internally, I think P3R and P6 have both been in some level of pre-production since after Royal wrapped up, with P3R expected to be a smaller project. It then turned out that P3R was a lot more work than expected and in 2022 or so, the decision was made to concentrate on P3R first and have it go in full production while a smaller team continued P6.

This makes sense but if they are seemingly prioritizing P4R over P6 now as well, I feel like either P6 is in some weird development hell like DQXII where they are struggling with how to define the game or they consciously don't think P6 is needed that much yet since P5 + P5 Phantom X are making a ton of money and they don't see a need to supplant/overshadow it.

They need to make Persona 6 first so they have an idea of what style to use for the next round of remakes.

from what I understand the core persona team moved over to metaphor, and the people in charge of P6 are the people who basically just did the Royal content. so I assume there's some work being done on P6

but I could definitely be wrong

Theres definitely work being done on Persona 6, but its probably taken longer than planned to really come together!
