Have a word with yourself, please. If you have any spare money, you should be saving up for a place to live, or a car so you can improve your job opportunities, or just be putting something aside for emergencies.

I don't say this lightly, because I like fun and am pretty self-indulgent myself, but my situation is a lot different from yours. You need to stop acting like a kid (which caused half the problems in your relationship), and start being responsible for yourself.

Don't look for people on a messageboard to give you permission to do things you know aren't right.

Having a shiny new toy is cool and all, but you know what really makes you reel better?

Having an emergency fund, a sound financial budget that accounts for all your life costs, your debts being managed with a zero debt goal in a specific timeline and a savings plan. Then you buy the switch without any of the associated guilt that it's going to fuck you financially.

Yeah, I don't know you at all nor your life situation, but if the messages said thus far are accurate. I would say don't do it.

I'm also financially unstable and more or less live off handouts. I don't plan on getting a Switch 2 until another year or so unless my situation drastically improves.

That said, video games are a healthier outlet than drugs or alcohol. If your compelled to burn a few dollars for catharsis, it's an acceptable choice.

But keep in mind that you can always buy a new game on Steam for like a buck. The rest of money can be used elsewhere, like for food.

if you are recovering financially now then don't do it. do it when you know your financially stable enough you can afford it without you going into budget crunch for months cuz of it

till then just play your old ones or if you got a laptop play indie or retro games to stave off the urge to get a new system hell dive back in and play older games you missed out on retro system as well. that is if you have a pc or laptop if so tell me their system specs so i can tell what system it can run for you

Above just being responsible about waiting, the interest rates on affirm are insane predatory stuff. You end up paying for it twice if not more, that's how it's so affordable month-by-month.

i do that on gpu's and now i regret not buying one that was decent for it's price cuz shit is shitty now in the gpu market thankfully amd's 9070 looks to be decent enough so i am waiting for a sale to get it for my new build

Wait. Launch is a terrible time to buy a new console anyways. Instead of getting it now and financing it, put aside some money every month until you can buy it outright.

OP, just as a point of reference. When I was down and out and got a new job and wanted to celebrate, I bought myself a burger from a restaurant.

Not saying I'm the all-knowing saint on budgeting or whatever, but maybe you need to moderate your expectations on what celebrating means when your situation is so fragile. Because it sounds like you're effectively electing to go into further debt while your income and living situation is at risk. That sounds less like celebrating and more like just doing damage.

Have you got an emergency fund, are your bills covered, are you paying down debts, do you have a plan to move out of your situation? If you have all of those things, maybe you can afford the switch. But honestly, a $500 toy that you need to put on finance? Sounds like you can't afford it.

My company is trying to help Affirm integrate their buy now, pay later feature directly into banks' debit cards. I find it to be very predatory considering that debit cards have basically zero protections.

With relatively few exceptions, if you can't afford to buy something on a credit card and pay off the card's full balance every month, don't buy it.

Yeah, I'm with everyone else saying no. If you aren't in a good enough spot to buy a video game console upfront without dipping into credit, you shouldn't be buying that console.

Not worth it if you have a Switch 1 and/or gaming PC at the moment. The new features aren't well fleshed out, hardware issues, and a battery life that's just about as bad(or worse if you're playing Mario Kart World) than a Steam Deck

I would wait for the software to catch up. It's not like you're actually getting a deal on the hardware, and the Affirm financing is likely to stay around.

The Switch 2 is worth it if you're like me, who has a bunch of Switch 1 games I gave up on because they ran like shit. But don't use Affirm. That's right up there with payday loans as a way to get poorer quicker.

I got one on launch, and the new Mario Kart is fun, but Ive been playing Tears of the Kingdom more than anything. You can definitely wait. Youll have the money soon enough and youll feel glad that you waited.

Almost every post Ive seen from tc is about how their life is literally falling apart and how much they are struggling to afford basic stuff
