Alphinaud is portrayed as deeply conceited and self-assured early on. Inadvertently elitist to some extent, even. Overconfident in his ways, regardless. It isnt long before he begins to realize how hollow his worldview had been, and how much more complex things truly are. A very rough thing happens to him, done in part through his own cockiness, and it starts him down a road of redemption.

Hes never a villain, mind you. Alphinaud is always an ally, but he grows into a genuine hero, with a great deal of empathy for his peers. By the time he joins the party (which is to say, when FFXIV finally lets you go into dungeons with prominent characters, rather than a generic team of NPCs), hes every bit the leader he was born to become.

Hes from a scholarly haven of a city called Sharlayan, and he has a sister, Alisaie, who becomes arguably even more important to the ongoing story than Alphinaud himself.

Hmmm...That's a good start.

Oh right, FFXIV has races, right? What race is he? Any other tips for how to write him well? I get it's just a silly short story, but I do like to try to get characterization correct.

I guess I could look all this up myself but I'd still like to avoid spoilers in the off chance that one day I bite the bullet and try this game.

Snowball Fight #5 - Alphinaud Leveilleur
Ritz had left the graveyard and saw a young man with white hair and pointy ears wandering aimlessly. Normally, she would be ready to pounce but the vague similarities to her dearly departed Shara gave her pause. "Hi there, I'm Alphinaud. I've lost some of my friends - Ysh'tola and Emet-Selch, if you know them." the young man said. She was charmed by his french-sounding name as she was apparently also born in a french town, despite the FFTA development team's best attempts to destroy the french language.

"Ritz - and no, I don't." she replied. Embers of her conscience flickered - now was not the time for violence. "But you're welcome to accompany me, I've lost a friend too. Perhaps we could throw snowballs together."

They found a field laden with snow, and began target practice. It wasn't long until Shara's words rang through Ritz's mind, "But my hair's white. Did you think worse of me because of it?" She looked over at her new companion. White hair. Pink hair. White hair. Pink hair. White hair! Pink hair! White hair! Pink hair!

She couldn't take the oscillations and flashbacks any more and her vision went black. When she came to, Alphinaud was lying on the ground. Blood soaked the remnants of snowballs that she had evidently thrown at such a velocity that they killed him, despite not being laden with foreign objects.

Or maybe it was just a critzical hit that finished him off. We may never know.

She couldn't decide between white hair and pink hair so she decided to give Alphi both

Alphinaud is Elezen! Think elves. Its probably the least original major FFXIV race save for Hyur (humans), haha. But yeah, mostly human-looking, albeit with pointy ears. Hes probably kinda short for one at this point, though - theres no exact timetable, but the saga has likely been going on for a good 4-5 years in-universe, and the maybe-21-ish Alphinaud still hasnt hit the notable Elezen growth spurt!

At least for the purposes of this table Alphinaud is the last debut, I think he's the last of the stat debuts...

Edgar and Ghido will be dropping off, while Jessie and Cid H could remain on if renominated in next year (if Jessie's back she'll move to the lower blue section, below Sazh). Freya and Rydia missing out on being softbooted by a few days from the look of things.

Also a fun fact: there will be no table additions next year as every new character nominated in contest XXV, who could've been a "every contest since debut" addition next year, were all in a booted state by the end of last year's boots. Good King and MogFF9 could've still made it if they were renominated in this year and survived through next year's boots.

So while no new additions happening next year, still plenty of subtraction opportunities...

Opponent: Alphinaud Leveilleur

Rules: Open, Same, Plus, One

Quistis had wanted to travel to this region for a while. It had been a long time since an area had developed such a devoted Triple Triad player base. She was excited to see it firsthand.

There were a few players in particular Quistis wanted to challenge who had established themselves as especially skilled. On this day, her opponent was an Elezen named Alphinaud. He was a young man with white hair and long, pointed ears. He possessed an aura of supreme confidence, which reminded her of a certain troublesome former student of hers.

"Shall we begin?" Quistis asked.

"Ready whenever you are," Alphinaud replied. "Let's see if you've kept up with the times or if you've become a relic of a bygone era."

(I don't know if he's trying to provoke a rise out of me, but I'll let my play do the talking for me.)

As the match progressed, it was clear that Alphinaud's skill was not exaggerated. He countered Quistis's moves and consistently made the right choices. He appeared to have the upper hand, and he knew it.

However, when Alphinaud played his final card, there was an almost imperceptible reaction, but it didn't escape Quistis's expert notice. It was regret. He had finally slipped up, but now she had to spot how to capitalize on it and achieve victory.

It didn't take her long to find it. She threw down her Jack Garland card, which activated the Plus rule and flipped over enough cards to give Quistis the game. (This is becoming a handy trump card for me.)

"I was careless. I should've known you'd catch my mistake. I must admit, I was impressed. I hope you'll play me again sometime," Alphinaud said.

"Don't worry," Quistis said. "I'm sure I'll be around again."

FFD is going to sell that Vivi to buy more boxes to fail to pull Zell.

He will get two Vivis from that box though.

Meanwhile I'm sitting here with two Zells and no Vivis.

I also pulled a Buster Sword last night, which seems to be rivaling Vivi in price right now.

If I don't pull a Zell I might actually sell one of the higher going cards to get him.

I really don't want to put more money into this, but I do want to both collect this set AND actually start playing again.

I opened up two Cids in 47 packs. Might be easier to buy them than to open them.

I normally (when I used to play) played Blue/White so I was going to try and make a Cid deck if possible, but doesn't look like it so far.

The one Cid I got in my 30 packs was Cid Raines
