Don't get me wrong, he is cool but with how people praise him you'd think they never played another FPS in their life.

i think 2016 was the sweet spot. Eternal took it way too far, with the cutscenes, the space castle, all the doomguy dick sucking by the humans

The absolute Doomguy glazing in Eternal is one of the worst things about that game.

The way NPCs acted towards him in Eternal reminded me of Duke Nukem Forever tbh

It's not as bad in Dark Ages, most people just seem scared of him

I dunno, I've never really been into Doom.

I learned long ago that people always focus on what's important to them and self-project the rest.

So when they portray a character, say Doomguy, as some super strong tryhard lame-o, I instead assume the super strong is probably true but the tryhard lame-o part could easily just be that I'm talking to a tryhard lame-o.

I genuinely don't understand what the hell Eternal and Dark Ages are even doing with the story and worldbuilding. 2016 seemed to be following the thread of the originals, but now the series feels like knockoff Warhammer

This is literally the first complaint I've heard since the original DOOM released back on December 10th 1993.

I thought I'd get away with it with a completely different game, but the cute chubby girl won't stop talking about the BOOM guy, and I'm pretty sure that it's supposed to be a stand-in.

I still prefer Master Chief.

That would be because they didn't really try doing this since December 10th 1993 until Eternal came out, where we find out how OH HE WAS FOUND BY DA ANGELS/MAKYRS, AND IS SO FUCKIN' AWESOME AND COOL HE WAS A SENTINEL AND NOW THE DUDE COMES IN WITH A FLYING ANGELIC CASTLE AND LITERALLY KILLS SATAN AREN'T YOU JUST COOMING RIGHT NOW IN YOUR LOINS

I know I mentioned the glazing being shit, but what they did with Sam Hayden, VEGA, and most of the story garbage in the DLC is also horrifically bad.

I don't play Doom, but from what I've seen of it, being OP is part of the character's appeal. Just, unlike other protags, it's actually reflected in-universe and he's regarded the way you'd expect a one-man army to be.

the original Doom Marine and the Marine in Doom 3 are all objectively awesome

dark ages did it very right, hes respected, but people arent sure of him. Demons however know him, and smarter ones try to avoid him

I wish I could, but unlike the originals it's so heavy-handed that I find it really difficult to just ignore it. I'm actually finding the weird worldbuilding in Dark Ages downright distracting, because these places I'm fighting demons in make no sense

Eternal really fucked things up imo. I am not a fan at all of what they did with that game. Was fun enough but even then I didn't like it as much as 2016 and now TDA.
