I would hope not, but some of Iran's key allies tend to be our biggest rivals (traditionally through lack of democratic governance) between China, North Korea, and Russia. I don't think they would get involved just on the basis of Iran, but it's not that far-fetched to see an imposing alliance similar to that which we saw preceding the previous world wars. There wasn't previously a single event that got every single country involved. The Franz Ferdinand assassination alone would probably not have led to WWI.

It would take a huge zag for WWIII. Pakistan nuking Israel, or China disrupting NATO.
The state, the populace existence of Iran is not in jeopardy with bombs targeted beneath the surface. They'll retaliate to keep the regime from falling, but I don't see them closing Hormuz to poke China.

Instead of civil war we have WW3 back on the bingo card of fear mongering popular lingo this year.

Do you think the people who lived through the early days of global wars realized they were heading towards a global war?

Maybe WW3 isn't even possible because of the multipolar power structure in the world today but there's certainly a large wave of armed conflict passing over the world recently.

I think Iran has to lose its national resources to gain wartime support. Its the only way for it to survive. Yes, Iran has support others before but it was as supplier capacity mostly. Id say thats the level of their current support now with weapons & bombs for other countries are on the sidelines cheering for their victory against insolicited attacks against their nation.

When Iran's support countries mobilize boots to their land is when youd know Iran has carved up a plan to serve its resources and its opposition's lands to its supporters. Isolate country through embargoes & sanctions. Force country to into submission through trade. Desperate country asks for help with desperate measures like giving up its national resources. For security, the country is occupied by its supporting countries. Supporting countries go, an attack on our soldiers that provide security and stability to the region is war with us now.
More diplomatic talks. Further presence of supporting countries is continued. More armed conflicts flare up throughout the war torn country... thats how ww3 would be going im guessing.

The moment Iran starts gutting itself to survive is when the vulture countries start making their own interests in the region
