Probably also a death trap as a lunar lander, fuel depot, tanker, etc. Anything it was designed to do. Dragon and Falcon are extremely safe and proven at this point. Not a fanboy of SpaceX, but I'd like to believe they're productively learning something out of this. With things like this, you sort of have to fail at some points in order to get further. Better to find out the heat shield was a point of failure before someone was actually in the ship. I think the concern at this point is the starship project has been stalled for some time without progress.
