Holy crap, for real? Thats no good. That was the best way to get the 3 lap versions.

It's so funny because there's such an obvious solution. Just have separate online modes for people who want to play the 3 lap tracks. Instead, Nintendo saw that a lot of people (especially in higher ELO lobbies) were picking random because it was the only way to guarantee a 3 lap track and said nope fuck you

Love JRPGS. Pokemon is a joke of a game.

Like platformers and challenge/skill games. Yea, I still like Mario. They platformers have plenty of challenging levels. Super Mario Wonder is a pretty fun game!

I like adventure fantasy games. Botw and TotK are really awesome games. I'll give them that.

Loved Animal Crossing on the GCN. Literally every iteration of Animal Crossing has been worse than the last. Wild World is better than OG in many respects, but also takes steps backwards. Wild World has the most varied dialogue, in my opinion. I played for 2 years at launch and would still get new text. Some of it was weird and existential, too! Now it's just bland and yea they somehow fucked up AC as well.

So, yea.

They keep releasing the (basically) same game over and over and over. If I'm gonna replay a game I might as well just replay all the MGS games or FF1-X or something.

Its worse than I thought. Random now only selects one of the three track options shown, instead of truly being a random mystery track.

I like Random as a none of the above option if I dont like any of the tracks shown. Now, I just have to play one of those three. And that just sucks.

Same. Have not gotten a switch 2 yet. But I guess Nintendo better fix their shit. Mario Kart World is probably their single most important game right now so they better hope they didn't permanently piss off too much of their fanbase

I literally have a switch 2 and was just playing Mario kart world and still don't know what he means lol

I don't have this game but I was baffled at one point when someone spent so much time driving this straight line crap and when they finally got to the track it was literally just 1 10 second lap of a tiny ass SNES beach track, like what is even the point?

To be honest I dont mind the connector races as much as some people do, I actually enjoy them. But I like to have the option for variety.

just another instance of Nintendo's open world design philosophy being whack as hell. Before, random being selected guarantees a normal 3 lap course. Otherwise, it's a massive straight line course with one lap of a normal track at the end. Basically they're forcing players to make custom lobbies to race traditional and there's now no way to do it in random online. The straight track courses are absolute luck bullshit and encourages bagging, hanging back collecting coins until the last lap then unleash whatever great item combo you've held. Boos prioritize the front positions and lightning doesn't hit backwards in this game.

Intermission is such a neat idea, it could have been great.
imo, to fix it you'd just need to:

• Make the entire Grand Prix continuous like it is in knockout tour
• Each track is 3 laps

It'd be fucking amazing if it was like this, instead it makes Grand Prix a less interesting version of Knockout Tour.

Yeah this is lame, theyve got to patch it back

There are 2 ways to play a track. The normal way, which is 3 (or more) laps, and the new way, which is race from your kurrent area to the next track and then race around that track, but for only 1 lap.

In online rooms, any one of the 2 ways will show up in the small assortments of selectables, but picking "Random" was a guaranteed way to have the track be a normal 3-lap race. This has now been changed to do the opposite.

So, most Mario Kart tracks in other games go in a loop for 3 or so laps, with each cup having four races. Mario Kart World is open world, and tracks 1 and (mostly) 4 are traditional tracks that go in a loop, but the 2nd and 3rd tracks are just racing straight from point A to point B. So you basically have one classic race, and then you race in what feels like "intermissions" to the second and final classic MK race. A lot of people do not like the straight races, for design and balance reasons.

Playing online, players could select Random, and it was doing the lap races, but that's been patched out.

I get the items are the point of Mario Kart, but I'd love an online mode with only boost items

a lot of intermission tracks don't even end with a lap at the real track, some are backwards (which is kinda cool) but a lot are a partial lap and end somewhere weird in the middle

but anyway yeah, super fun update. love driving in a straight line for a minute and getting lightning'd as soon as we reach the fun part

You're doing it wrong if you get the shock right before the last lap. If you're properly bagging you'll have 20 coins and a Bill with golden or triple shrooms lined up behind it, and the shock will be ahead of you. That's often queue to unleash your combo.

No Mario Kart Wii still takes the cake, and yes I like the 16 bit ones better. World is probably one of if not the best ones ever made with the mechanics present, it's just this decision to not let us race traditional races in worldwide is baffling and dumb.

This one dude who I like to tune into from time to time ended up in that exact situation and I couldn't help but be pissed for him (because he got mario kart'd).

You go through that entire boring stretch doing well in the higher places, your racing lines is a bit on point this game and your defense was good. This is one of those races where you just deserve to be in the top 5 at least.

You make it to SNES koopa beach and its just one final chaotic GCN baby park-like donut. That long boring stretch doesn't matter, all that matters is who hung to the back and popped their golden shroom/bullet/star right when that lightning just dropped, and since SNES koopa beach is so small there isn't a damn thing you can do as the previous frontrunner when the ensuing chaos starts.

From all the mario kart world videos I seen frontrunning in mario kart world looks to be a absolutely miserable experience.

*In comparison to mario kart 8 deluxe where while there is some tracks like GBA cheese land where frontrunning is pretty hard its still not hard at all to maintain consistent wins if frontrunning is what you want to do.|*

been saying this since the reveal when i figured online would just be the straight line crap. like i know whenever i do get around to buying a switch 2 i'll end up buying it but i really hope they fix it before then. but it's nintendo so they won't and will keep making horrible decisions like this.

Reminds me of how the Pokemon devs heard of the Nuzlocke stuff and were all "no no no you have to play the game the way we intend and absolutely no other way" so they made areas as ambiguous as possible to kill off a core component of the nuzlocke rules.

Guess I won't be getting a Switch any time soon then. Massive own goal for them to hyper-inflate the cost of the game, release it as the only title for your new massively expensive console with zero functionality beyond a OG Switch, then make the game mediocre through insane design choices.
