While I fully think Marcus should go fuck himself, I'm more half and half on Sydney. Carmy spent the entire season not giving her the support she both needed and was asking for. Like the early episode where he wants to swap to that French style, ignores her objections that the team isn't in a position to listen to her, leaves for hours, and then berates her into silence when Tina sabotages things. That was the worst example, but it was pretty consistent.

This also makes him kind of a hypocrite in the big crashout episode because he was holding her responsible for what Tina did, then putting all the blame on her when she neglected to tick a box on the tablet. As the owner, he holds at least some of the responsibility for not making sure this huge new system was in place and set up correctly. He also pretended he was fine with that accident with the food critic, then took the first opportunity to make a snide comment about it when shit went bad.

Basically, he spends the entire season putting all the responsibility of running the place on her without giving her any help or support, but making sure she gets all the blame when things go wrong. So I get it. Don't get me wrong, she was NOT blameless. She went too far by bringing up Richie's daughter, not to mention stabbing him in the ass, and she should absolutely not have left in the middle of that clusterfuck when it was ultimately her fault. But I get it.

I think a mutual apology would've been the right call in that situation.

Marcus should be homeless.

I never finished s3. Season 2 was an all-timer and 3 just felt like the creators were sniffing their own farts. This happens with shows sometimes and the best ones are able to bounce back and I'm hoping The Bear can do so. I'll keep watching if I hear 4 was able to correct course

There was some fart sniffing in the first episode but it went by quick and was a good setup for the season

I'm gonna wind up finishing this in one sitting on my off day today, on episode 7. Much, much better than Season 3 imo so far, feels a lot closer to the first two seasons which made me love the series.

Season 1 and 2 were great and I literally watched the first episode of season 3 and was soooo bored lol. Didn't watch another episode. Can't think of another show that killed my interest so quickly.

This but the way it's shot is...the most interesting this about. It fills many scenes with an odd tension that just lingers and it's almost like a thriller show. Even if it is just about cooking and making a restaurant great.

Yeah it's a very authentic and raw take on a family restaurant in the middle of a city, if you like drama, you'll dig this regardless if cooking interests you.

Just watched the first 3 seasons a few months ago, and I'm a fan. I now see why Ebon Burt-Bacharach is a rising star; it's pretty rare that a single solitary episode completely changed my opinion of a character from 'pretty much hate' to 'absolutely adore and am forever rooting for' the way 'Forks' did. I also kinda love how the creators insisting it's a comedy when it's clearly a drama with a smattering of comedic moments adds its own weird layer of comedy to the whole thing.

Just watched the first two eps of s4, and for my tastes it's definitely putting its best foot forward at the start. I asked myself at least half a dozen times towards the end of s3 "why don't they just hire as many people as they can from Ever?"

3.1 is by far the weirdest episode. The rest of the season is good, it just doesn't advance the plot much.

Yeah, it was a fun moment, but doesn't hold up to any level of scrutiny, especially for such an otherwise grounded show obsessed with the minutiae of keeping a struggling restaurant afloat.

Still, the show would've probably ended up sucking if it had remained stuck in the lane of "high-strung chef can't even manage a fucking sub shop properly," so ultimately I was on board with whatever far-fetched steps it took to get to what we got in s2 onward.

Final episode is one of those single scene, seemingly one-take episodes the entire finale, it was honestly kind of brilliant.

Season 1 and 2 I give a solid 9/10 or better
Season 3 for me was a 4/10
This season was closer to a 7-8 honestly, still not getting back to the original season chaos but it's a lot better than season 3.

Season 3 just felt like they were planning a 3 season run and didnt have enough content to fill one in between or something

There were some good character moments, but the plot itself is essentially at the same point as it was at the end of season 2. Some character relationships werent even resolved at all in season 3. There was some plot progression of course, but it was not a full seasons worth of movement

I was kind of shocked on episode 1 of season 4 when I realized how little had actually changed in terms of where the restaurant and several of the characters were

Yeah the problem with season 3 was the absolute lack of any progression in the storyline. It seemed like how it started was how it ended, the big review to determine the status of the restauarant, near beginning of the season. End of season, still no review, nothing advanced, nothing determined. It felt like you could pack season 3 into 3 episodes.

really the important developments were Sugar having her baby, Shapiro trying to recruit Syd, and Ever closing.
Those are the major things that are immediately brought back into focus in season 4, and I agree, all of this couldve been fit into way fewer episodes

There's something bitterly ironic about s4 struggling with middling reviews when the entire season (or at least the opening) is framed around the restaurant recovering from the fallout of a middling review.

I think season 3s reviews were inflated if anything

4 is a far better season to me so far
