I'm going through my caffeine reserves and I'm almost out of my tea bags.

Put it in a coffee maker, just like coffee.

They also make a variety of reusable devices to put loose tea in to steep.

Hot water

just boil it in a pot or microwave it in a microwave safe bowl

then add the tea, simple and elegant

I don't have one either.

Heck ask at most gas stations and theyll just let you get some hot water for tea/noodles whatever you have

A tea infuser is generally going to be your best bet, but you can also get reusable tea bags or just use a sieve to pour it (though most sieves aren't going to be fine enough to strain out everything).

microwaving just water can be dangerous

it's safer to microwave with a spoon or chopstick in the cup with the water so it doesn't superheat

It's definitely far safer than microwaving metal or plastic.

Contrary to popular belief, metal's only dangerous in certain shapes, specifically ones that facilitate arcing between different parts of the object. A fork would be a terrible idea, but a spoon is usually okay.

Is your issue that you don't know how to heat up water or that you don't know how to separate the tea leaves??

If you're wanting to make large amounts of tea (for iced tea, for instance), just use a sauce pan and a fine strainer:

fair enough lol. you know how to get me. I still don't know what you mean by 'proper' though. heat up the damn water, steep the tea, and strain out the leaves. those are the three steps regardless of the variety of tools you decide to use.

One time I accidentally microwaved a spoon and thought I got lucky that it didn't start a fire

It is still just safer to avoid putting metal in a microwave altogether and suggesting otherwise can be harmful to people.

I used a coffee maker with a coffee filter for the loose tea we bought

I'll find out how it is tomorrow morning. Next time I brew it I'll put the tea in a sieve. Hopefully it doesn't melt the plastic handle.

It tastes fine. I thought I might have overdone it since I found a site that gave how much you should use and I did one over the maximum since I like my caffeine.
