I've done like a 2 dozen races and only 8 of them completed, the other disconnected mid race, some at top 8&4

It also seems laggier than normal too.

Shit sucks. You lose points every time it does that, too. Practically nobody is above 9000 anymore I'm seeing countless 8k.

Worlds current online issues are fundamentally different than any problems seen with even base Mario kart 8 though.

The game has a respectable amount of content and characters on release. The problem is that Nintendo doesnt want you to be able to choose how you experience that content online

A number of the issues I've heard about the game come from the actual game mechanics such as the increased number of characters in the race. MK8 was solid even before it got a ton of tracks added.

From a mechanics perspective MKW is fantastic and the tracks are wonderfully designed to take advantage. The issue is Nintendo being bullheaded as usual and mostly forcing players in Worldwide to endure the straight lines. In higher VR rooms half the players are bagging now because why try to front run when it's so much more stressful and probably less successful.

Maybe its due to their ego but Nintendo has always seemed to have a huge issue with its players not playing their games as intended.

So they do petty things such as this just to spite them.

A lot of the problems are simply because Nintendo decided they know best. This was not a transformative game like they tried to make it seem. It's fundamentally flawed at a base level. Like I play a racing game to race on cool tracks. Not for the open world bloat. I was mad enough when burnout Paradise made burnout not nearly as good as previously. Open world adds nothing that the DS version with the challenge mode didn't do.

After 11 years this was the best they had? It's very annoying.

Bot looby's aren't that fun, but I can understand say 2-5 bots

If it's 6 humans and the rest bots it's a problem. Bots are draft feeders and they aren't chaotic and aggressive like humans. Those races basically don't start until top 8.

Not the end of the world, but I like snatching victory from humans not Cpu unless I choose to

Those largely straight in between "tracks" are absolutely a mechanic and an unpopular enough one that a change to random that makes them able to show up more results in a huge response from a fairly significant number of players to be quite upset.

Also you brought up people bagging, the reason to do that is due to the games mechanics, the way item distribution works (a game mechanic) encourages the practice.

Ultimately I think what Nintendo needs to do is to course-correct quickly. Add race preference options to random racing instead of only limiting it to local, friends, or private lobbies. Said preferences will include options like item customization, speed preference, default or 3-lap courses only...you know, like how even MK8 offered before they removed it in the re-release. I dunno what their issue is with limiting online options in Mario Kart recently.

They're being prideful idiots. There's 202 straight line tracks and 30 traditional, and they didn't like how higher VR rooms were largely choosing random to get traditional tracks and ignoring the other 202 lines of bullshit.

I get why dupes and stuff are patched out of games that have economies and online play, but why do single player games need to be fixed this way

I think Nintendo was a little overconfident in Mario Kart World and some third-parties that most people have already played would carry the launch. They are still following the "make sure there's at least one big first-party release per month" strategy, let's see if it still pays off. I do think DK Bananza should've been a launch title alongside Mario Kart though at the very least.

i understand Mario kart as a sole launch title for business reasons, but as a player its just not the kinda game I solely play for long periods of a time like the sandbox Zeldas or 3d Mario.

Its one of those games that youll play forever, but as a side thing between other games for me. Its no doubt one of the highest selling series for Nintendo, but I dont think it can hold its own as a game as a flagship launch with nothing alongside it tbh. I agree that bonanza absolutely shouldve launched with it.

I think any console launch should have more than 1 big first party game in general tho unless its something monumental like BOTW that could reasonably hold a player until the next games come out

Theyve never been able to fully get rid of item duping, but they did their best to make it as annoying and low yield as possible. As far as Im aware there arent any methods that are as easy or high yield like there were in the early versions.

Maybe new methods have been found, but when my game auto updated and there werent new methods readily available at the time I just stopped playing and was soured enough to not go back

They tried to remove duping but I think a brand new method got introduced thanks to the Zelda Notes app feature. You can dupe items by saving first, putting up to 10 items in a QR Code for distribution, then reload and scan the code yourself. It's slow though, you can only scan the same QR Code once every 24 hours. Because of the way it works I don't really seeing them patching it. Even if it did force a manual save you can easily just go back to an auto-save before you deposited the items you want to dupe.
