Do they do any crime solving that has them doing an extensive search for a villain when they don't know the location or headquarters? I'm pretty sure most of their crime solving is them just solving random local crimes while traveling the world.

They are however very luck based so it's possible they could accidentally discover his identity!

The Scooby gang don't exactly keep their identities a secret. In some media they are even known world wide.

Scooby really isn't going to do anything without the rest of the gang

They would figure it out but it would be by accident. Like, Scooby and Saggy would fall into his house somehow and find the Deathnote while thinking that it was a cookbook or something. Ryuke would also lead them to it with an apple because it would be funny to him.

I'm not up to date on modern scooby doo, but doesn't the scooby gang just sort of wander about, stumbling on mysteries? I wouldn't think Light would be aware of them, and they'd only come into conflict if they stumbled on his house or hideout or whatever, in which case the campy cartoon nonsense probably trumps edgy anime drama.

Depending on the incarnation, sometimes they are invited to investigate a mystery or they know/heard about a legend and decide to investigate.

As for Light vs Scooby, I doubt the gang would just happen on the mystery. The gang clearly has a good relationship with the police since the police show up at the end to arrest the perp. Likely case, police get desperate and invite the gang to investigate the Kira situation. Then it becomes a race to whether the gang can figure it out or Light becomes aware of their involvement.

They get scared and runs around while Ryuk tries to talk to them.
Suddenly Shaggy and Scoob are in the kitchen, making apple pie.
Ryuk starts eating the apple pie, Shaggy and Scoob realise that a bad guy wouldn't eat apple pie, they eat apple pie together.

I don't know. Once you kill Shaggy, Scooby will hunt you to the ends of the Earth to take you down.

I'm not certain who wins.
But I am certain that it somehow would involve everyone comically running in and out of a hallway of doors.

I believe in Scooby beating out Light. Depending if people know Shaggy's real name within the fictional universe could also keep him alive. The rest are toast, sure, but Scooby will pull through with some Scooby dooby doozers.
