My policy when it comes to game systems these days is just to wait for a game I want for it to come out.

I have a strong dislike for Mario Kart so I am waiting for something worthwhile.

Currently have my eyes on Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion. If that's good I'll get a switch 2.

I picked up the MK bundle a week or so ago, ahead of the vacation time I took last week. DK's the main upcoming title I want the system for, but MK's also been fun and it's not like I stand to benefit from waiting an extra couple weeks.

You could always just play it on PC. Or the PS5. Or the Xbox X/S.

I got my switch lite years after release through work. We get access to the points catalog through the credit cards we sell as bonuses for various things. I got enough for the switch two presumably when it becomes available there. With sales lagging it might not be as long as I expected. And with only one major release I'm in no hurry.

I don't plan to get one.

I usually wait, but went for day 1 this time. It's been fun. Had a good night playing Super Mario Strikers with 3 friends. The difficulty of the COMs is kinda nuts tho lol. Game's a riot.

The Wii taught me that lesson, buying Twilight Princess and Red Steel on launch and having to wait two years before I could even find the console available to buy.

Not planned. Though to put it in perspective, my most recent Nintendo console is a GameCube, and it has been idle for a few years. Not for lack of things I still want to play on it, there's an untouched Tales of Symphonia. But like Amy Winehouse, I ain't got the time.

Nope and no plans to get one.

I never buy the first iteration of any game console. They always end up releasing a second version with more storage space, better computing power, more durable hardware, or all of the above. Those switch 2 clip on joycons look like they'll shatter in <6 months.

Also it's expensive as fuck and has no games I care about so there's that more than anything.

Gonna get one after I get through more of my backlog

It's on a fence for me. I want a Steam Deck more.

OLED or "pro" model someday but no reason whatsoever to get one now. Prices are prohibitive. Can't be lighting money on fire for this kind of stuff rn.

I can't say I really regret picking up my Switch at launch instead of waiting for an OLED, given the extra cost for the OLED and the lack of new features that might have justified it. If I could expect the base model's price to drop over time such that the upgraded version would cost the same amount as a launch system, it might be worthwhile, but history hasn't exactly given me reason to think that's going to be the case.

Arguably the Switch OLED counts, and I'd say the New 3DS and maybe DSi do. The GBA SP was also a near-unambiguous upgrade over the GBA, despite not aligning with any of the criteria stated.

But on the console side, the Switch OLED is indeed the only example. The Wii's revisions only removed features to offer cheaper models, and the WiiU, GC, N64, SNES, and NES had no major revisions.

i'll give you the new 3ds, but as it is, it's a stretch since it had exclusive titles playable only on it. dsi i wouldn't really count since all it added was more integrated online with the removal of the gba port.

the switch oled is just a screen upgrade, and if you only play docked, then it wholly is irrelevant

i guess the gpa sp does technically count, i would view it as the gba pro x or whatever, despite the actual performance being the exact same, just due to the nature of its changes entirely (backlight, rechargeable battery, completely different design)

No, I don't agree to Nintendo's terms of service. They can suck all the big ones.

I have no interest in buying one.

I voted "Other," and that's a "I will get it once I figure out how to mod it like I did my Switch."

There were enough instances of improved performance and added functionality even in non-exclusive games that I think it definitely qualifies as an upgrade.

I mostly threw that in there because it does technically have more storage space than the DS, by virtue of actually having storage space in which to save DSiWare games. I would agree that it probably shouldn't count, but I figured it was worth acknowledging for pedantry's sake.

There's a very marginal performance improvement, more internal storage, a better stand, a LAN port in the dock, and better speakers. It's not a half-gen upgrade in the usual sense because there aren't significant performance improvements, but it does hit the storage and hardware improvement points he mentioned.

Yeah, the SP is definitely in "I should have just waited until this came out to buy a GBA" territory. The only reasons to prefer a standard GBA are replaceable batteries or if you want to play Kirby's Tilt 'n Tumble or Warioware Twisted (they don't work so well with the cartridge upside-down).

I was hoping to get one before Donkey Kong Bananza released but Im losing hope Ill be able too. I keep missing online restocks and there hasnt been any local stock for weeks.

Stumbled upon one the other day and nabbed it. I was originally going to wait until there were more games on it that I wanted, but then I decided Id just get one whenever I could find one so Id be all set.

So is the console fully backwards compatible? Even outside of the "upgraded" titles. So there would be no reason to hold onto a Switch 1 after getting one.

If this is the case, I guess you could counter the expense by selling the first console.

Pretty much. The only games that dont work are games that require the physical dimensions of the Switch. So like Ring Fit Asvebture and Labo. Everything else should more or less work.

Also anything that requires the IR camera on the right Joycon 1 won't work without it because Joycon 2s don't have that feature, but you can use Joycon 1s on the Switch 2 to get around that. You'll just need some other way to charge that Joycon if you're getting rid of your Switch 1.

There are also a few titles (almost exclusively third-party) that run into some software-level issues because they don't play nicely with the emulation. I believe most of those are pretty minor, though.

I'll get it eventually but I'm in no rush.
Nintendo kinda has made me not really want it honestly.

But Zelda games are why I honestly buy Nintendo consoles.
That said I usually want every console as soon as I can get it with very few hitting the I don't want it or I might wait a few years, yet Nintendo finally is in that list.

I think most people did. There are a couple minigames in Warioware and 1, 2, Switch! that make use of the sensor, but otherwise I don't believe any games are affected by the Switch 2 not natively having that.

Yep. The only "you can't play this with a Switch 2 at all" games were the Labo ones that you put the Switch itself into. Any games that require you to fit a Joycon into something (some Labo stuff, Ring Fit Adventure, etc.) are playable only if you have a Joycon 1 available.

They outline all of the major hardware-level compatibility issues on their site, along with having a list of titles with identified software-level issues and their status. Since the last time I checked (shortly before release,) it looks like they've resolved the problems for a sizable majority of the affected titles, and given that the list hasn't been updated since June 5th, that seems like they're in pretty good shape to me.
