Yes, these are all things that I've experienced. I'm surprised they just don't outright block you if they detect an ad blocker.

Even if they aren't making money off of you seeing their ads, they can still make money selling your harvested data

Since when has that ever been good enough for shareholders?

Literally no webapp actually uses agent strings anymore. It's there because of legacy reasons but doesn't do anything except for googlebots in some cases.
I tried using Oculus casting to my PC and in firefox oculus.com/casting says this message:

This browser doesn't support casting.
To cast to your computer, please use a supported web browser such as Google Chrome.

Then I used a user agent switcher addon to spoof Chrome and it worked flawlessly. I think some websites do read that string and lie to you.

Millenials refusing to switch off Chrome are literally just repeating the Internet Explorer bit boomers did.

Time is a flat circle.
This post hit really hard, lmao. Incidentally, my computer crashed randomly today and when I booted it up, Chrome forcibly installed an update I'd been avoiding, thus killing my adblocker. As a result, I immediately made the jump to Firefox and it actually wasn't hard at all despite my misgivings. I imagine there will be some growing pains to figure out, but I've been wanting to make the jump for some time and I can breathe a little easier now that I have.

Anyway, thank you for giving me that push, @K-driver. I refuse to be the equivalent of an Explorer fossil.

In fairness, on my previous computer, Firefox would have loading issues that Chrome didn't, but on my new computer I use Firefox without issues and have Brave as a back-up.

Chrome announced and executed this plan years ago. Use Firefox (or one of its forks). Chrome (and any Chromium browser for that matter) is compromised and will always be inferior in terms of privacy and security.

Firefox has bulletproof adblocking and security controls.

Chrome is the Internet Explorer of the 2010s/2020s. Stop using it, and stop defending it.

I've mentioned it a lot before, but I use NordLayer and it was the best thing I did. Handles my VPN, dedicated IP, adblocking, etc. across all devices.

But I thought NordVPN was "the bad one"

Isn't it the one at the end of youtube videos that youtubers tell is sponsored by?

Why need a chromium based browser anyway? At most I could see Opera GX for the aesthetics and if you're gave up on privacy.

I've been able to hold off the uBlock-killing Chrome update for now, but reading this topic prompted me to go ahead and make the switch to Firefox, since I'll inevitably need to eventually. It was pretty easy to migrate all my bookmarks and stuff over.

Fuck Google. I'm never watching ads on Youtube, nor paying for ad-free Youtube, ever.

That would be really bad if that happens. If that does happen, then there should be legal action on those website allowing frauds, false advertising, inappropriate and malicious adverts to appear.

Google likely wouldn't care. Supposedly they were warned by a ton of companies to keep adblock because of the viruses and ads yet they still chose this. They won't care if they have to ban users for using adblock if it means fighting it.

Then the law should get involved, if Google does decide to do it. Google shouldn't be allowed to get away with it, if it does happen.
It is bad that Google is getting away with it, by doing their best to disable software to block adverts.

It still does, and honestly so does firefox. There are good days and bad days. Last year the culprit was revealed to be youtube due to Google shenanigans and Firefox devs were nice enough to find a solution that they included in an update which helped with that a bit.

But it's just something that will always happen, even if you close all the YouTube tabs you have open. I personally am curious to see if it can eat as much as 60 gb in RAM. I know it can eat 16 gb worth of ram since that's how much I have, and in my next PC upgrade I'm going for 64 gb of ram.

Doesn't firefox just ask you if you want to transfer your bookmarks over?
