The fest tagline is literally "Machines, Conveyor Belts, and Robots, Oh My!"

It's even highlighted by the sale itself as a top seller. Does Factorio ever go on sale or will it just be the retail price perpetually?

I believe I've seen people say the devs said they're never going to put it on sale.

It's really stupid, yes.

Devs have said countless times in the past that their game will never go on sale. It's only increased in price since it first launched.

Yeah it never goes on sale and while I have no problem buying full price games, on principle, I won't support a dev that has that kind of mentality. Literally even Nintendo games go on sale. Not very big sales, but if you wait for March 10 you can usually pick up games that are like -10% or -20%

How injust of them to not account for the feelings of people who spent a greater proportional share of their net worth at release.

It was like $20 in early access, $30 at official launch in 2016, and then $35 in 2023 for "inflation". But they also have been updating the game ever since 2016 adding new content to the base game.

Now they even have a Space Age DLC for an additional $35. So It's basically $70 if you want the whole experience.

Steam could offer a rebate, even if the devs doesn't want to change the advertised price, probably.

that said it is a colossal amount of Stuff for 30-35$ even without the expansion, and if you just really want a cheap factory sim there are a number of other similar games which do go on sale

honestly I think it's absurd that you can't just buy and play games you want to play without potentially spending like 2-3x as much if you don't consult the phases of the moon first

I don't really think there's any pretending or hiding going on here? They're very upfront about the attitude and yes part of the reason really is "we think it is worth the full price". the actual statement(s) on it, since I don't think anyone linked them

It isn't about visibility or sales, its about respecting the players who have already purchased the game. We don't want to reward the people who hold off on buying the game, the game is a price we find reasonable, and this is the deal. If you think it is priced too high, then it is your choice to not purchase, and we hope that with enough time, and extra development, we will be able to convince you of its value.

Not having a sale ever is part of our philosophy. In short term, they are good and bring extra money, but we are targeting long term. I believe that searching for sales is wasted time, and people should decide on the price and value, but putting option of wasting time to search for deals or waiting seems like bad part of the equation.

personally, I think I would prefer games to just have steady price at say, 80% instead of being 100% a lot of the time but also randomly fluctuating down to 50% or 30% or whatever, so I can appreciate an attitude that doesn't do these fluctuations

Have you never wanted to buy a game but been like "hmm wait maybe it'll be on sale later" and then consulting a bunch if historic charts and finally end up playing it months later? Some people will go through this process and like it because they feel like they got a good deal. Other people will go through this process and hate it because they just wanted to play the game but knew if they did they're basically just throwing money in the trash. I think if you're really far in the first group their sale philosophy makes no sense but the more you are toward the second group the more understandable it gets

It's also worth noting the dev is a red pill incel shitheel of the foremost degree

Who's "searching" for sales on Steam? Add a game to your wishlist and you get a notification when it goes on sale. Or just wait for the big quarterly sales.

I don't see the logic in any of the reasons they listed. But I guess I'm just not their target audience.

When you see a game you want on Steam, but it's not currently on sale you end up going to some place like steamdb to see when you should buy it and at what price. I just got a game at $15 but it's normally $60(and I knew not to buy it full price because it goes on sale often enough), but I didn't know what the lowest price was so I waited for that price to show up again in case it got a worse sale than its lowest ever price.

Steam notifications don't tell you what a game's lowest ever price is, and the Factorio dev apparently uses this time I waste as a reason for why it never goes on sale. Even though we all know the real reason is the game doesn't need sales to do well(greed).

i don't go to steamdb, or check any price charts

if the game costs too much for what i think the amount of content is, i just won't buy it and wait for it to be at an acceptable price

in the case of factorio, there is enough content to justify the price

but then i would have supported racist pedophilic developers, and i don't do that on a fundamental level
