It's apparently more like a traditional AC instead of the newer borderline-ARPG style.

Probably not. It does try to improve on the equipment system, but there's still equipment tiers and the map size is comparable to Origins.

As someone who completed the main campaign, you're not going to like it. It still keeps the armor based on levels and the blacksmith to add perks to them. You're going to have to grind out levels by taking on castles and contracts. The big thing is that Yasuke and Naoe's gameplay are vastly different. Yasuke is more brute force and Naoe's relies more on stealth and moving quickly around to thin out the herd of enemies.

I haven't played them, with the exception of Origins, but from player experience and reviews, I've seen many people say stuff about how if you didn't like the RPG Assassin's Creeds, Shadows won't do anything to change your mind.

I personally like the gameplay and the very different styles of the two protagonists over previous games.

Technically if they assassination isn't supposed to kill the target they don't stab them in the neck. It's either in the side or like a slash across their body.

To answer your original question, yes shadows is just like the other RPG games. The game you probably want to play is Mirage

I've played and completed them. Odyssey is one of my favorite games, so we have different tastes TC.
