I remember renting this as a kid and liking it.

Love this game

I saw like 30 seconds of gameplay of this game once in 2000, and then it haunted me for nearly 20 years as I tried to find it. All I remembered was the "combo chain system" and "lizard tail flip attack"

I have repeated this story several times but when I came home from the Navy at the end of May in 1999 I went to the store and made two blind purchases from off the shelf based on box art and the screen cap/info on the back.

I bought Silver Star Story Complete that had been out like 2 days and I bought Legend of Legaia that had been out a couple months. Legit best double blind game purchase I have ever made. Then later that fall Suikoden II came out but I was waiting on that. 1999 was good to me after coming home.

I liked it a lot. And I think it's a shame the this new sony, the hollywood sony, has totally abandoned their old franchises, IPs, especially the JRPG genre, when they have so many classics that people would love to see brought back with remakes such as in the HD 2D style. I hope they outsource some of these to developers who are interested. They're already doing that with some smaller stuff, maybe some of these old RPGs will get a chance.

The only one I heard they actually had internal interest in was legend of dragoon but that was over 3 years ago. No idea what came of that or if it is still being worked on or canceled or what.

I love the battle system. The narrative and overall story is kinda middling, but the battle system is amazing.

I remember it being cool.

It is one of my favorite games from my teen years. I believe I was in JHS when it came out. It was my first big boy game. Serious story, high stakes, complex characters. Never played a non-Nintendo rpg. Not even FF. So this was basically my first JRPG as well, not counting Pokemon and SMRPG.

Love the haunting atmosphere, the creepy, yet beautiful world map. The organic sounding music. The main cast, and their Ra Seru guides. The monster designs were cool. Battle system was fun (i used a guide and enjoyed it a lot). The story revelations were really surprising to me at the time. I loved everything about the game.

The sequel did not do it for me. It had no atmosphere, was too goofy, the characters were boring, the voice acting was trash, dungeons were dull.

Id love to see this remastered. But I dont want anything but the pop-in, framerate, and slowdown to be fixed. Keep the models, keep the fog, keep the grittiness. At times, it felt like a horror JRPG and altering any of that will make it less of what it was before.

Yeah it's dated in a bunch of ways and if it were just to be re-released as is, it'd have limited appeal. The problem is Sony has no interest in putting in a minor effort to modernize the game, or other JRPGs in its back catalog for a remake or remaster, and the whole genre is dead with Sony with maybe the exception of Dragoon if that game actually makes it out the door.

Yes! One of my favorite RPGs. It's an amazing game and mindbogglingly long for being only one disk.

I always ran into issues around the third mist tower however. The first time I played I got stuck on the boss in the flying tower. Years later I tried playing on an emulator and I got stuck at a point after that. The game kept freezing during a cutscene and I never did figure out how to get around that.
