monkmith posted... you want to fix the housing problem you need to go after local governments and force them to change zoning laws. in city zoning for single family homes only is a major issue, most cities functionally outlaw new apartment and duplex development.this --- Just Fly, Don't Worry https://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t92/muttley1211/bug.gif ... Disagree. Corporations buying up houses, yes. Some middle or low class worker with 2 or 3 houses, no. Contrary to the hate for landlords, many do enjoy renting over owning. Not everyone wants to own a home, and some of us do regret buying a home. I personally am selling my 1 house I own because its too much of a headache. I'd rather rent, in the process of moving out to find an apartment. If I could go back, I'd convince myself to not buy my current house. ... Copied to Clipboard!

[LFAQs-redacted-quote] Not by itself but it did help. The poor needs the taxes for the services and tends to pay less taxes (with the exception of some countries), the rich gets taxed but they generally do everything in their power to either avoid it or flat out gets GOVERNMENT FUNDING to keep themselves running, while the middle class takes most of the brunt of the rich. Hell, if one wants to play semantics, you could say that inflation is a tax on holdings. A "hidden tax". --- Some things are beautiful because they cannot be obtained. ~~ Gilgamesh ... Spurner posted... Well, I close on my new house tomorrow, but will still own my current one until its ready to list and sell. Id rather not get taken to the cleaners for the overlap period.Even if you decided to keep the house, I dont think people like you should be punished for keeping both. You would hardly be the primary or great reason why the housing market is trash when corporations are doing far more harm buying up entire streets and neighborhoods. Not to mention we need landlords for people like me who has grown to realize I much prefer renting. Regardless, those pushing the extreme landlord hate towards someone like you is where we are losing many average Americans in the messaging department. The optics seems to be putting someone like you on the same caliber as a corporation with 100 or even 5 homes. That kind of messaging makes it harder to elect politicians who can market on taxing corporations, because the extremist wing keep getting highlighted. ... Copied to Clipboard!

If you do this without making it illegal for companies, charities, NGOs, or other institutions to own residential property, it ends up completely unenforceable because you can just create a company per property.
