Oh yes I remember. Company I worked for turned into the free with every happy meal toy. We had a new owner every year. Did the stupid all hands welcome new owners every year. And then every year they would try to shut us down or pivot us, fail, and sell again. Far as I know, the company was sold again like 1 year after I left, and then at least 4 more times before I lost contact. It was so bad we kept the branding in a jpg file beside every exe so it would show the correct company Logo that year without us even bothering to recompile. My previous company, eternally struggling to keep its head above the water, entered a partnership with another that soon devolved into them buying us out, except we had no market value at all and they ended up essentially getting the already tiny place for free. Then found they couldn't make it profitable either, sold the remaining customers to a number of competitors and retained one employee until the end to guide the customers over. That employee was me. I received an agreed upon bonus for sticking it out to the end (or slightly less than half of one, tax office said thank you for 60% of it), and more to the point, one of the companies that took over customers was impressed with me helping to convert some of our customers to their software, and offered me a job also. Questionmarktarius posted... the 60% tax part isn't very nice. Typically the tax on regular wages isn't quite so bad, but for something on top of it, be it overtime pay or a bonus like this, all the deductions do not apply and it's hit pretty hard. But it was an extra still, I had nothing else lined up yet, in fact registered with the chamber of commerce to solo for a while, until blessedly the whole deal landed me my current job. SunWuKung420 posted... Can you grow human skin, collagen and an anti wrinkle cream additive from a single vial of cryogenically frozen foreskin cells using DMEM? I can. I mean, I couldn't do it right now if you handed me the components and asked me to, but that's true of pretty much any job. Stick me in a McD's kitchen right now, and I couldn't make a Big Mac (at least, not one that adhered to the defined guidelines). Stick me in a McD's kitchen with instructions on how to make a Big Mac, though, and I'd be able to do it. Similarly, stick me in a lab with a cocksicle, the relevant growth medium, and instructions on how to put them together to make cosmetics, and I fully expect that I'd get the hang of it within a couple tries. "You don't know how to do *highly specific task that nobody outside of this job would ever have reason to know how to do*" isn't really the flex you seem to think it is. Every job has job-specific skills and knowledge that anyone outside of the field can't be expected to have. Not having those skills and knowledge doesn't mean they couldn't learn them if needed, unless the skills and knowledge require a significant amount of education, experience, talent, and/or practice (like anyone can drill a hole in some metal with minimal training, but precision machining requires much more training and practice). --- This is my signature.
