I'm far from a Kojima fan but the directive he kept clashing with was getting increasingly anti traditional gaming and was intending on focusing solely on pachinko.

Plus lots of other talent also left Konami at the time, such as Koji Igarashi. In fact I think they're still trying to rebuild talent and goodwill to this day

So despite Kojima being a diva, I think it was possible to actually reason wish him while he was in Konami

I mean, Im pretty sure he knows how it ends.

IT's kinda something they killed a game that was....Kojima, Guillermo del Toro, Norman Reedus...

With a demo still regarded as one of the finest horror games of the medium that is today wholly and completely unplayable.

Tbh its weird when people take Konami's side because of "overspending" when MGSV made such a huge profit within a fiscal year. Dude pushes the medium forward with legitimately unique gaming experiences while raking in huge amounts of money. Let the man cook.

It's just a graphical upgrade and, I guess, some UI improvements. Shit, I don't think that I'll play it either.

I don't think you'd need to do a whole update like that, I was fine with them just reusing the dialogue and stuff.

But the fact they're still using the PS2 maps is so incredibly lazy to me.

They're a business and Kojima wasn't delivering the kinds of returns they were looking for. Konami has consecutively made shittons of money every year since the firing, and contrary to what meme lords say less than 10% of that comes from pachislot.

If it was more than just a 1:1 remake I would get it but it is and that's not that great for me

As disrespectful as that may have been and it obviously fulfilled Kojima's desire for hollywood actors in his games, Hayter's voice acting performance of Snake was getting quite exaggerated. He peaked in MGS1-2.

Not to mention the "overspending" was literally the result of Konami forcing him to have the game held back by the PS360 over unfounded fears that people "wouldn't upgrade to new consoles" for some bizarre reason. It easily could've been a PS4/PC only game and cut down on porting costs + making the FOX Engine work on a machine with 256MB (!!) of RAM.

Over 70% comes from efootball, Yu-Gi-Oh, Baseball Spirits, Power Pro, whatever else they release on consoles. The rest comes from their arcade, gambling, and sports divisions in roughly equal amounts. Seems like they've consistently been making around or over double their profits since Kojima.

he actually wanted to make movies.

the reason he doesn't is because he thinks he would never leave it.

He went on to say that hes "a perfectionist," and the way he works with video games wouldnt really work for making movies. He explained: In games, no matter how much I make it perfect, it doesnt end. And FFS, when was the last time some of you guys called up the support crew? We just didn't know any better in those days. Para-medic's voice actor clearly had a sleeping baby in the room and SIGINT's was clearly required to stand at least ten feet from the mic at all times.

There seems to be a lot of jerk moves from Kojima like the game localizers, voice actors, patenting the path system in Death Stranding. I will say that this is just stuff I heard and haven't fully looked into.
