I was a big fan of the show in the 90s into early 00s. And dont really remember why but I just stopped watching. Only thing I watched over last 20 years was the Death Note episode which was years ago in 2022.

I feel like I've really warmed to the "bad seasons" over time. And I'm pleased to report that it's been on an upswing for a while now.

I haven't kept up with The Simpsons since season 20 and that was like... 18 years ago

I just looked up the ratings and we may not be alone. Ratings fell off over last 10-15 years. I dont really watch so no idea what changed to cause it.

2007 but yeah that was one of the rare moments I watched anything Simpsons related over last 20 years.

25 years for me. Hasnt been good since about 1999-2000.

i equate it to the creation of Futurama, which took all of their best ideas from Simpsons writers

90s was peak Simpsons after all

I stopped watching around 1999 because i moved in with my aunt and uncle, and they watched other shit. I was thinking about catching up by watching it all on disney+ but when i tried, I only watched the seasons I was familiar with and then stopped.

Now that I think about it. I moved on to dramas instead in 2000s to 2010s had some amazing ones like The Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad, Dexter first couple of seasons. And Curb Your Enthusiasm and Always Sunny were the comedies I watched instead of Simpsons.

The only Simpsons stuff I really watched was the movie, the Death Note segment, and a Halloween bit with a red and blue robot destroying everything probably a U.S. election allegory. I dont remember the ending or timing, but Im guessing it aired around Nov 2024. So I just remembered something I watched lol.

After Disney+ launched, I watched all the episodes that had come out at that point.

Prior to that, season 12 was the farthest I had gotten.

But then again, the movie was really forgettable

All I recall is Springfield being sealed under a glass dome, Homer going on some spiritual quest and "boob lady", and Bart skateboarding naked (zomg yellow cartoon penis)

The last thing I watched was Treehouse of Horror XXXV segment The Information Rage. Where it was basically saying Republicans and Democrats destroy every thing. It was like is the moral meant to be vote 3rd party in the 2024 election. After that segment ended I went back to not watching the show. Didnt even watch the other 2 segments.

I still rewatch the older ones very regularly.

I'll occasionally dip into the new ones, but I'm not really bothered about them.

It's not even that I think the newer ones are bad or that I don't like them, it's just that I feel like I have enough Simpsons episodes in my life and I don't need the new ones.

I rewatched a clip my mistake. It was the GOP monster wrecking things like the CDC, while the Democrat one just texted voters to donate for a Nevada Senate race instead of stopping gun violence.

Credit to The Simpsons that was funny, but sadly accurate given what followed after Trump won.

Camp Krusty was originally intended to be the movie, but they had trouble fleshing it out to feature-length, so it ended up as a regular episode of the show.

If its been 25 years since youve seen it, how do you know it hasnt been good since then.

I got bored one day and started watching through every episode. Was up to about season 23 at the time I think? And Ive generally kept up with it since; not necessarily on release day but Ive watched every season by the time the next one starts.

It's actually been pretty solid lately. Not the best mainstream animated sitcom out there (thatd be American Dad at the moment IMO), but still very good.

I can't watch new Simpsons, mostly cause it hurts me to hear what happened to the voice of Marges actress

20 years ago I was my friend group's Simpsons guy, and my encyclopedic knowledge of the show was what I was known for. Now there's more seasons I haven't watched than seasons I have

Thats how I feel about SpongeBob lol. Kept watching after the movie but I didnt enjoy it. So I stopped lol.

I do still enjoy The Simpsons though. The hate is way overblown. (And it is amusing to me to see the the last good season getting higher and higher )

I tapped out around Season 17 in terms of watching live. I've tried to watch some of the newer episodes here and there but other than the Halloween one with Death Note and Westworld, they've all been awful. I don't know how it's possible to be this bad because the people writing the show should have literally grown up on the show at this point.

Season 1-12 I'll still watch all the time and is my favorite show ever. I'll go higher but bow out once it hits S14E02 "How I Spent My Strummer Vacation". That's a good episode but it's all downhill after that.

I still see it in the news sometimes. A few years ago, they changed Homer and Marges backstory to make them 90s kids. That feels weird to me. When I watched in the 90s-00s I saw them as older then me. Now theyd be my age, which makes it harder to connect. Maybe newer viewers are used to it, but it just would be weird to me.

Of all the things I dislike about the Simpsons, it's the way they keep trying to retcon how old the characters are.

Like, it made sense when Abe was a WW2 vet and Homer was born in like the late 50s and he and Marge dated in the 70s etc, but now at 39 Homer is the same age as I am and would have been 3 when the series premiered.

I think "That 90's Show" was a major WTF moment for me when they tried to make it out that Homer was Kurt Cobain or some shit

If they didn't do this then the show would be even more stale. There's only so much early/mid 20th century tropes and culture the writers can acknowledge before they've run out of everything.

I get why they have to do it. Making 50-70s references in 2025 may not connect with modern audiences. One example is in The Shinning one of the famous lines is "Here's Johnny". New generation might not even get that reference anymore. So I get they have to up their ages to align with the new young demographics.
