I used to lump them in the same rubbish bin but I seem to see a little more regret and lesson learned from Brexiters compared to MAGA.

Some of them. Sort of. There were different types of Brexiteers.

The little Englander types who hate foreigners and wanted a return to the days of Empire.

The free market capitalists who wanted the UK free from the inconvenient social and worker protections of the EU, so they could race to the bottom and exploit the workforce in the way that some Asian countries do.

People who had been fucked over since the 2008 financial crash and austerity, and supported Brexit because nothing else worked for them, so why not try this? The thought of giving the establishment a bloody nose was the icing on the cake.

Old school Tony Benn style Socialists who believe the EU is a pro-capitalist bureaucracy operating purely for the benefit of multinational corporations. Jeremy Corbyn falls into this category somewhat, which is why his support for Remain was less than wholehearted.

The first three groups have some things in common with MAGA. What is missing from all of them are the religious elements of the cult. The regret comes from people in the third group. They may have given the establishment a bloody nose, but they also succeeded in kicking themselves violently in the head.

Kind of but I think reform UK are more like MAGA.

The brexit regret is very like MAGA though, in the sense that they only regret it because they figured out they'd personally be worse off, with no care or regard to how the rest of the country would fare.

^^And like MAGA, I expect reform UK to clean up in the next election.

And if elected I'm guessing Reformers will be indistinguishable from MAGA 3.0 (current version)

The UK's own MAGA party are going to win the next elections, and it's run by the main backer of Brexit, so no, Brits have not learned anything. They aren't any smarter than Americans, they are deciding to vote for a conman again after falling for his bullshit one time already.

On the other hand, what choice do people feel they have? We have the tories who are openly declaring class warfare, labour who is capitulating to class warfare and then reform UK who is at least pretending to give a fuck about growing wealth inequality, even if none of their economics sense and their true motivations are just wrapped up in racist undertones.

They will decimate the election and kier starmer will stand there with his shocked pikachu face wondering why it all happened.

Reform UK voters are, yes. They look at what's going on in America and think "yes, I want some of that. Especially if it targets immigrants and asylum seekers".

People who voted for Brexit in general though? I wouldn't say so - quite a few of them now regret their vote, some are left wing, some just wanted to give the Tories a kicking. Not every Brexit voter is a Reform voter.

They have the choice not to be as stupid as the American right, sadly they may not take that choice, but nothing you posted is a reason for anyone except an idiot or bigot/fascist to vote for them.

honestly? the UK's election system is somehow more fucked the the USA's. first past the post multi party system means that elected officials make it in with a quarter of their constituents supporting them.

That... No. Just no. The parliamentary system is not anywhere near as crap as the electoral college and state system.

I'm going to share a story

My mum went to Bournemouth to visit my late Uncle over 2 decades ago, they went to a store to get food and mum went to pay (we use the pound) but the cashier said to her "we don't take foreign money".

So mum asked for the manager, who told the cashier to accept it but the cashier wasn't for budging, basically calling my mum, a White person, a foreigner just because she gave the cashier Scottish banknotes. Mum told the shop to stuff it and walked out.

I'm surprised she didn't sue the shop for racism.

They found another shop a bit further on that did take her Scottish notes.

I've seen first hand where a place in England wouldn't take Scottish notes, but the reason they gave was not racist but rather because someone scammed them with fake notes so stopped taking them, which is fair enough.

now correct me if i'm wrong, because i dont live in the UK and have no direct experience with it. but in many areas you have 4 or 5 different parties fielding a candidate yes? but its still first past the post, so when you've got 5 different candidates on a ticket you're going to have a 5 way distribution of votes, which means that its fairly easy for a single candidate to win the office with 30% of the vote.

i like the idea of a multi party government. but its obvious that they took that idea and combined it with the worst voting system for it.

Of course they won't

The tories are promising to private everything and defund the NHS, labour are increasing taxes for the "middle class" (read: working class, aka everyone) and reform UK are promising to not do any of this and magic money out of thin air.

The fact they can't do any of that is immaterial, they'll still clean up. Immigrants are forever the scapegoats of greed.

Which was a massive blunder on his part. You can't go into an election that's a de facto referendum on whether to go through with Brexit and be neutral on the issue.
