It's a needed improvement. You could still prompt it to act however you want, but the default is no longer going to be deeply sycophantic.

There's a whole subreddit dedicated to people with AI boyfriends and girlfriends losing their shit over this.

4o was around for so long that people thought it would be the norm and a more flexible character.ai forever.

Every major model now does reasoning by default, even if a fast or flash model.

Exactly, a certain subset of the population has deluded themselves into thinking that LLMs are actual sci-fi style AI and should blow smoke up their rears constantly when in reality every "AI" is basically a glorified search engine.

meh, dropped chatgpt plus for a claude pro sub. being able to bounce ideas off of o3-mini was nice but I don't even use half the features of plus. gonna miss the help for learning new languages, though.

I mainly use it as a calculator for finances, cookbook for my pantry/fridge/freezer, or programming help. But based off OP looks like a lot of people might be lonely and use it for conversations about their life.

I did that a year ago. Looked into it, informed myself, decided I want nothing to do with AI in my private life.

In addition, I also try to reduce my dependancy on US apps and digital services. I've eliminated almost everything, but kept Whatsapp (as Messenger), Microsoft (for Office365) and a few Google apps. These are the hardest to abandon. I try to abandon Google search next by switching to Startpage. It's a small step, but a step nevertheless.

Yeah, unlike NFTs, AI has been picked up by the masses and has worked it's way into general life (being used in school, work, etc.). So it's gonna stick around. In the coming years abandoning it will probably be like avoiding smartphones. You could do it but you'd be seen as the weird one.

I really do appreciate how much easier AI makes my questions and searches. But it's on everyone to really understand what the output is. Dig deeper than what the AI gives you and use it as jumping off point for research.

For gpt5 specifically, openai has dramatically reduced the hallucination rate. To the point where the AI will sometimes say "I don't know" rather than bs you. And that's an amazing achievement.

Sorry, but this is such a hilarious statement.

I'm not saying the technology has no use at all. But as it right now, I see a lot of hype created by tech companies and beneficiaries such as marketing departments to boost it for personal gains. Most companies I know still evaluate its overall efficiency. It's not the miracle solution for any and all problems like the hype wants us to believe. There are also certain risks such as the possibility to misuse the technology or other issues such as the ecological damage the technology does to the environment, that should be adressed.

That's it in regard to the work sector.

As for the personal life, I can do very, very well without using AI. Best advice for a happy life? Just shut the phone off for a couple of hours, go outside, meet some people in real life, read a book, exercise, form your personality. AI isn't needed for anything important in personal life.

This is definitely not a change or die moment, in all seriousness. Life is about so much more than just one technology.

AI is the new way to learn.

I could read or watch classic courses on whatever I'm trying to learn or get certified in, but that's static content. It can be outdated.

I can ask AI to construct an entire course for me, with interactive quizzes, and generating all kinds of content along the way. I've already done this and passed a certification.

AI has infinite patience and will teach you until you get it.

As someone who has first-hand seen what A.I. has done, and will be forced to work with it, the downplaying of A.I. is extremely silly. You are using a relatively new thing, and projecting its current abilities to where it will be at in the future without realizing how powerful its current abilities are.

Instead of trying to downplay A.I. because your political enemies wield it, how about we try to wield it for ourselves before we are left behind. I have been saying this for a decade, but didn't expect the early stages of A.I. to come now, but we have to win the war for A.I., or humanity's fate is sealed.

so many people would believe its real

To be fair to AI here, news outlets have already run video game footage as proof of war crimes in the past.

To cater to how I learn. I didn't need it. It just helped immensely in organizing all of the material I needed to go through. I could test my knowledge throughout the entire process and figure out where I needed to do better.

Not everyone needs to sit in an instructor-lead course to learn. Just sit down with an AI for a few weeks and you'll learn something.

People like you said that about remote courses that universities offer via the internet. You just have to look at yourself and understand that your opinion is not held by the rest of the world, just like how the rest of the world didnt consider computers useless.
