If there was a book or movie or whatever people alphabetize titled just "The" what would happen then? I assume manually, it would just be put in the Ts but what would a computer that ignored 'the' do?

Back during my days at Blockbuster, movies that began with "A", "An", and "The" would be alphabetized by the following word of the movie title. Something like The Big Lebowski would become Big Lebowski, The. A Murder of Crows becomes Murder of Crows, A. It's a much better way to order them considering how many begin with A, or An, or The.

You do realize alphabetizing and capitalization are 2 different things, right? All of those should still be a capital T but put in different sections based on alphabetization.

I dunno - I used to shelve book in a library and I always thought it would be better to just include "the" when sorting things. Why bother skipping it? It's part of the title.

Because then the "T" section just becomes huge and you have to walk halfway through it to then just start going through all the "The" titles.

To put this into perspective, there's a site I can watch cartoons on for free that has their "The" shows listed in the T section. There are around 400 cartoons listed that begin with just "The".

I guess there might be a circumstance in which it would make sense. Like maybe if the entry were just "The." You'd almost always ignore it and alphabetize as if it weren't there though.
