the writing is so bad but it is a very intricately constructed and enjoyable story with a ton of memorable characters. some beautiful art and music too!

Just as a note, the original fan translation was by someone who speaks neither Japanese nor English as native languages. The official translation is written rather better.

This feels like rating the Bible or something - it's a legit seminal work that's sooooo far back and spawned what might as well be a religion for the absurd amount of money it rakes in

It's almost difficult to trace it all the way back and look at it truly in a vacuum at this point but I give it a 9/10. Definitely turned me on (not like that) to the wider world of VNs; even before it was a media empire unto itself, it was widely considered a gateway drug of the highest order and there's a lot of good reasons for that.
