People are comfortable with a lack of privacy only to the degree that they don't understand it and don't think about it. Popular media shows police having magic powers and behaving morally and only using them on bad people. It has been pushed for years now that having too much privacy is bad or suspicious.The quality of news has gone down and people live in echo chambers where they don't hear things outside of their bubble.

Most people don't understand how technology works, thinking is hard work we shy away from doing, and every possible psychological trick has been used to get folks to make decisions that aren't generally in their best interests or something they'd want or even tolerate if they understood what was going on. Playing the long game helps too: if people began to see the full spectrum of negative consequences happen rapidly around them, they'd start thinking and see through the narrative.
