A mini-brain is a brain organoid, which means its a reduced and simple version of the human brain. Its made of millions of neurons that organize in different regions and they connect among them, generating electric signals which are very similar to the ones we find in our human brains.

The most striking thing about this is that this model behaves very similarly to a human fetus of six weeks. This means scientists can observe how initial connections that make thinking, memory, or emotions possible are formed without experimenting directly with people.

How was this mini-brain created?
The process to create this mini-brain started with skin or blood human cells, which transform themselves into induced pluripotent stem cells (a type of cell that can transform into any cell of the body). Later, researchers guide these cells to transform into different types of neurons and brain tissues.
